Didn’t you fully understand the ending of Sandman? Actually, it is something predictable. The story of the Lord of Dreams imagined by Neil Gaiman spans dozens of time arcs, in addition to several decades of narrative threads. In the Netflix series, the most important ones are combined, some are explored differently from the source material and specific characters are given importance. All in the midst of an elegant and well-constructed rhythm that captivated the public.
The production of the platform surprised the critics and the audience. After several failed attempts at adaptations, they seem to have found the formula for success. With a careful plot that brings to Netflix the main arcs of the comic, the show proved to be a great show. Also a tribute to the fans, who waited for more than twenty years for a version of one of the foundational works of the world of graphic novels.
But Sandman it’s something more. It is a compendium of a good number of decisions that turned the narration into a high-end production. From the narrative arcs, neat and mostly self-contained, to a visual design of considerable quality. The series proved that the long story, which spans 75 volumes, could be adapted. A question that obsessed the public and the specialized press for decades. However, Neil Gaiman and his team worked for more than just celebrating the source material. At the same time, he delved into a universe of rich mythology that he recreated in all its splendor.
Perhaps for that reason, the Sandman ending was so emotional, unique and an open door to new places in the narrative. Points to consider for a likely sequel? A worthy farewell? Still without confirmation of a second season, the closing of its first episodes could be a tour of the best of its history on screen. Whatever the answer, we leave you a guide to better understand its mysterious conclusion. Please note that this short summary only delves into the adaptation and not the comic it is based on. the Netflix series.
The lord of dreams reaches a necessary maturity
Sandman It is distinguished by narrating several stories at the same time. The most important is that of Dream/Morpheus. The eternal, kidnapped for a hundred years by the magician Roderick Burgess, managed to free himself with effort. Throughout the series, his journey to recover the objects of power and rank from him is narrated. He also to rebuild the Dreaming Realm.
But there is another aspect of the story of special interest. The way in which Morpheus, a cold cosmic entity, indifferent and distant from the creation as a whole, begins a moving transformation. In particular, regarding everything related to his sensitivity towards the creatures whose dream he must protect. The long and eventful journey leads the ruler of the Dreaming Realm to understand that his existence and purpose are related to the human. Also, that the immemorial link with the most intuitive and refined nature of the world, is the essential meaning of its function as an ancestral entity.
The end of Sandman makes it clear that Morpheus matured, which has been a constant in Gaiman’s work. The change is necessary for the character and, in fact, so essential as to ensure his transcendence. After a long journey in which he could be destroyed several times, Dream of the Eternal manages to assume that certainty. And make it part of his eternal life experience.
The final fate of The Corinthian in Sandman
Corinth is a nightmare created by Dream so that humans can face their fears. But, at a certain point, the creature rebelled against its creator. Which caused Dream to go in search of him to the waking world. The fact triggers the events of Sandmanso much of the argument, shows Corinthian’s attempts to stand up to his opponent.

Either keeping him locked up in Roderick Burgess’s basement or trying to use every weapon at his disposal to destroy him. Corinth became an enemy to fear for Morpheus and, in the end, the leader of a sect of assassins obsessed with the fantasy of death. Even Corinth attempted to manipulate the vortex of the age — a creature capable of destroying the Dreaming Realm — against Morpheus. But in the end and by confronting his creator, he failed in his attempt to destroy him by diminishing or influencing his power.
For his last scene on screen, Corinth is reabsorbed by Morpheus and disappears.. However, the Lord of Reverie hints, perhaps, at a second version of the villain. “Without so many flaws,” adds the cosmic being, who even in the worst moments considered the nightmare his best creation.
The Lord of Dreams faces his worst threat and manages to defeat it
For the second half of Sandman, Dream faces an unexpected enemy. A vortex, which is nothing more than a human being capable of going through the dreams of those around him. And even, overcome in certain circumstances the power of Morpheus.
The creature, which is often born without a clear explanation (Dream admits to not knowing its origin), is often a threat. In particular, for the stability of the Dreaming Realm and Morpheus’ purpose of protecting the ability to dream of all living things.
In Sandman, Rosie Walker turns out to be this ambiguous inexplicable being. But, in reality, the character is much more than a risk to Dream’s power. In addition to jeopardizing the stability of the collective unconscious that contains Morpheus, Rosie must go in search of her brother Jed. The boy, adopted by an anonymous family after the death of both parents, is unaccounted for. And he is in mortal danger in what seems like an invisible war of cosmic forces.

And if all the above were not complex, Rosie needs to put the pieces of her past in order.. Which includes a more than providential reunion with his great-grandmother Unity Kinkaid, one of the victims of the evil dream. The mysterious illness plagued the world for a hundred years, due to Dream’s captivity. In the first chapter of the Netflix series, the seriousness of the circumstance is shown, as well as Unity’s uninterrupted sleep.
During the last few episodes of Sandman, it becomes clear that Rosie is a threat to Morpheus. So much so that he must kill her for the benefit of the world and the integrity of the Dreaming Realm. She accepts her fate, but then there is an unthinkable revelation. In reality, she is not the vortex, but Unity Kinkaid, destined to be one by birth. However, she spent much of her life asleep as a result of Dream’s captivity, so she inherited her destiny to her offspring. When the secret is discovered, Unity can die peacefully in peaceful sleep and Rosie, stop Morpheus from killing him.
But, even more surprising is the identity of Unity’s lover. The latter explains that her daughter was conceived while she slept in a place between worlds. In the midst of a heartfelt farewell, Unity describes the father of her daughter and Rosie’s great-grandfather as a “golden-eyed” man. An unmistakable trait that immediately tells Morpheus and his faithful librarian, Lucienne, that Desire is, in fact, Unity’s mysterious love.

One of the big questions raised in Sandman it’s how an all-powerful creature like Morpheus could go through such a painful adventure. Captured, held, stripped of the objects of power from him, and, in the end, thrust into a confrontation that almost led to the killing of a blood descendant of his.
The ruler of Dreaming went through all sorts of fearsome circumstances. For its final chapter, the Netflix series shows that the architect of everything that happened was a character who was hardly heard of during the plot, but who has a specific weight. He is about Morpheus’s younger brother, Desire, who manipulated the circumstances to provoke and confront the King of Dreams.
The reason? It is about a dark dispute that comes from the comic and that Sandman partially reflects. Desire and Ella’s twin Despair de Ella are convinced that Dream underestimates their power and investiture. In one of her few scenes, she makes it clear that everything that happens is due to the arrogant character of her older brother. So she fights him with every weapon at her disposal.
A secret in the family of the Eternals

In fact, in a tough conversation in the season finale, the youngest brother of the Eternals confesses that he was behind several different schemes against Dream over time. He points to “the circumstance of Nothing”, a tragic character locked in Hell for love of Morpheus and admits his involvement in what happened between them. and although Sandman does not explicitly narrate it, it is evident that it was a situation that used Morpheus in danger in the past.
But the most shocking revelation is that Desire was the architect of another of the central lines of the argument. In other words, that tried to get Dream to spill the blood of the heavenly family to cause chaos. And she did it through a bizarre series of subterfuges, including manipulating situations, fathering a baby with Unity Kindcaid, and pushing a near-inevitable situation.
For their last scene together, Dream challenges Desire to face him and the rest of the siblings. Something that the latter declines. However, it makes it clear that on this occasion, his fight was harder than at other times. “I touched something sensitive” explains the character. “Next time, you will bleed”, threatens the protagonist, once he has abandoned the domains that belong to him.
The brothers reunite and the arcana return to the Realm of Dreams
During Dream’s captivity, the Dreaming Realm nearly succumbed to his absence. Which included most of the cosmic being’s creations fleeing. Specifically, her three arcanes: nightmares and dreams of special power that represent the power of the Realm of Dreams. The group includes Corinth, a cruel creature who caused the events narrated in Sandman. On the other hand, Gaunt, an entity capable of changing form. And finally Fiddler’s Green/Gilbert, which Dream calls “the heart of daydreaming”.

For its final chapters, it is discovered that Rosie Walker is capable of attracting the three arcana thanks to her very special nature. And she does. Gaunt protects the dream of his brother Jed, who suffers violence from his adoptive family.. Gilbert is one of the unique tenants of the house he occupies while looking for his brother. And Corintio tries to manipulate the character’s power against Dream, although he cannot overcome Rosie’s will.
With Corinth destroyed, Gaunt forgiven for his disobedience by Dream, and Gilbert back in the Dream Realm, the domains of Morpheus regain their splendor. On the other hand, Rosie wins back Jed and culminates in carrying out her great dream. Write a book that, of course, has the King of Dreams as its protagonist.
