With the premiere of The Batman on the horizon, now its director, Matt Reeves, reveals his plans for the future of the franchise.
the same way you did Christopher Nolan before, batman will offer a very grounded take on the Dark Knight mythology. The director of the new movie DC Comics, Matt Reeves, highlighted precisely that argument at a press event. Despite admitting that he’s looking to get away from some of the more fantastical elements of the Bat-Man universe, he continues to open the door to reinventing some of Gotham City’s more outlandish characters.
The fantastic side of Gotham City will not be reflected in the franchise. Matt Reeves wants to prioritize the more grounded version of the Dark Knight
Among them is a villain that we last saw in the hands of arnold schwarzenegger. We are talking about Mr. Cold, one of those very curious enemies of the Gotham Bat. And that in the future he could join the universe of batman. «From my point of view, I am drawn to finding the most grounded version of everything. It would be an interesting challenge for me to figure out how I could pull it off, even with ideas like Mr. Freeze, which has a great story, you know? I think there’s actually a grounded version of his story that could be really powerful and cool.explained Matt Reeves.
«I love the fantasy side of the Dark Knight. And, although for me this version is quite faithful to the comics, I don’t think the fantasy part is necessary. This iteration doesn’t lean so much on the fantastic, I suppose. For me, the interesting thing would be to try to unravel the fantasy and see how it could work here, how to make sense of it. It’s the way I see it“, argued the director of batmanas collected by our colleagues in Collider.
The film opens on March 4.
