The soap opera of emojis in Windows 11 has not come to an end. In mid-2021 Microsoft showed the great redesign of more than 1,800 3D emojis for Windows, Office and Teams, with the promised return of Clippy.
However, after all the noise armed with it, these never made it to Windows 11, and in the end we got new emojis with Fluent design but no 3D, and no explanations. If you’re one of those disappointed by this broken promise, at least we now know that the Microsoft design team hasn’t given up on their efforts.
WINDOWS 11 from ZERO: REQUIREMENTS, INSTALLATION AND TUNE-UP
Fluent emojis are coming… we just don’t know when
Nando Costavisual artist and head of design at Microsoft, has shared a post on LinkedIn in which he explains the entire process of creating the “Fluent emoji”, his effort of more than a year to “bring a system of more expressive emojis to Microsoft “.
When they told him on Twitter that they wish Windows 11 emojis looked like this, coast replied not only agree, but they are working on it, followed by a 😅. Obviously Costa knows that there are many disappointed by the promised emojis that never arrived, but this does not mean that they will never arrive.
Nando also explains on his blog that the design team of Microsoft uses tools like Adobe Illustrator, Cinema 4D, Figma and Font Lab, among others, for the creation of these emojis. It also details the evolution process of the 2D icons to the 3D version. It is a great read for design lovers.
This all sounds great, and before anyone complains that Microsoft should focus on more important things like Windows 11 features and bugs, that’s problems that have nothing to do with this equipment. Microsoft designers often come up with great things, but what Windows looks like in the end isn’t up to them. The limitations that the development team may have to implement these changes are something that we do not know.
