Taking photographs at night is very complicated and there is no button that is capable of ensuring a good result, but there are a series of tips that can make our photos better despite the lack of light.
Photography capabilities on mobile devices have evolved over the last few years. Nowadays it is possible to take photographs that have little to envy to those made with a professional camera. And, it is that, we have more megapixels, more optics and better sensors.
Of course, we must not forget a very important element of mobile photography: post-processing. The software of the photographic section of a mobile phone does not cease to be one more component when taking a photograph, being in charge of interpreting the colors, adjusting the exposure and, many times, solving errors.
What happens is that, when night falls, the cameras of many mobile phones do not quite measure up. And, it is that, darkness plays against many photographic sensors and brings out the shortcomings of some mobile devices. Not even high-end terminals are without problems when the curtain falls on the day.
What should we do to get good photos at night? The truth is that there is no single step to get a good photo in difficult lighting conditions. The trick consists of several steps to follow when taking a photo.
The first thing is to have our camera lenses clean to avoid blurry photos.
After checking that the lenses are clean, the next thing is to search the camera application for the professional mode, if the application does not have this mode, you will have to use the night mode. In case of having professional mode, it is best to lower the ISO to a value between 400 and 800, if it is possible to always leave it at 400.
If you have knowledge about photography you can adjust the exposure time, but if you don’t have it, the best thing is to let it be managed automatically. Having done this, what you have to do is focus on the object or subject that we want to photograph. It is always best to have a tripod, but if it has to be done freehand, it is done.
To have maximum stability, try to keep your arms as close to your body as possible, so movements will be reduced to a minimum. Now it’s time to take the photograph and before pressing the shutter button, take care of the composition and think about what you want to transmit or have with said photograph.
In the case of having night mode, all you have to do is activate it, be as still as possible during the time it takes to take the photo. Of course, there is a piece of advice that applies to both cases and that is to think about whether photography is possible. Our eyes see more than a mobile camera and we tend to overestimate its capabilities.
So before you take your phone out of your pocket to try to capture a tiny detail in a low light situation what you have to do is think about whether the mobile is going to be able to perform this feat. And, above all, don’t be afraid of having noise in the photo, experiment and try everything possible.
