Each liter of beer needs approximately 155 liters of water to make, according to The World Wildlife Fund (WWF). Companies use water for beverage manufacturing processes and also for washing returnable containers.
The National Water Commission (Conagua) detailed at the end of June that there are 64 water concessions granted to companies in Nuevo León, totaling around 50 million cubic meters, which is equivalent to 1,600 liters per second.
Four of the 10 concessions with the largest volume of water are in the hands of beverage manufacturers. Heineken, for example, has two that give it access to more than 3.6 million cubic meters of water. Purified Drinks, a company dedicated to the production of soft drinks and other non-alcoholic beverages, has a concession that gives it access to 1.4 million cubic meters of water, while Arca has another for 1.2 million cubic meters.
“
I am not going to let any company leave the state”
Despite the water crisis that the entity is going through, Nuevo León positioned itself as the entity that captured the most Foreign Direct Investment during the second quarter of the year: 1,448.4 million dollars, equivalent to 20.1% of the national total.
The State Ministry of Economy detailed in a document that, from January to June 2022, 66 foreign investment projects have been confirmed, related to manufacturing (30%), automotive (21%), logistics (9%) and IT & Software (6). %). 32% of the projects have decided to settle in the municipality of Apodaca, 8% in Santa Catarina and 24% have yet to be defined.
“Fortunately we are already coming out of the (water) crisis and I can say that the companies that are already installed in Nuevo León are proposing expansions or reinvestments, we are not aware of any that are thinking of leaving, said García. “And I’m not going to let any of the state go,” he concluded.
