The DTM reaches its last round of the season at Norisring with the title to be decidedA battle in which Liam Lawson, Kelvin Van der Linde, Maximilian Götz and Marco Wittmann are immersed, although the options of both of them to win are not proportional. In any case, the four-cushion championship battle means that four manufacturers out of the five who compete regularly in the DTM have a chance of winningAs Liam Lawson competes with a Ferrari, Kelvin Van der Linde with an Audi, Maximilian Götz with a Mercedes and Marco Wittmann with a BMW.
With these data in hand, the first GT3 season of the DTM could be considered a success, since there has been a great equality thanks to the ‘Balance of Performance’ designed by AVL. Nevertheless, the performance balance system is being the focus of tensions and strains that are not visible to the general public. The last test, the ‘BoP’ change request made by Walkenhorst Motorsport after Saturday’s race at Hockenheim which was vetoed by rival teams. Marco Wittmann’s chances of winning the DTM were diluted by a previous change in the ‘BoP’ for the German’s BMW M6 GT3.
In the days leading up to the Hockenheim event, AVL determined in the ‘BoP’ settings that the turbo pressure of the BMW M6 GT3 was reduced by 0.02 bar. Walkenhorst Motorsport understood, given Saturday’s performance, that this adjustment had unfairly impacted on the Bavarian brand’s GT3. Walkenhorst and ROWE Racing cars were analyzed, but any adjustment of the ‘BoP’ in the middle of the weekend is prohibited from the third event, so the approval of all teams was needed to make any changes. Nevertheless, BMW’s rivals vetoed this ‘BoP’ change. To top it all, the turbo pressure of the BMW M6 GT3 will be reduced again at Norisring.
