The development process of the new generation of the BMW M5 continues to progress. And proof of this are these new spy photos. The renewal of the sedan signed by BMW M has been hunted, once again, in broad daylight. However, this time we are faced with a less camouflaged prototype and with production elements.
BMW M continues to work at full capacity in the process of developing a new generation for its popular sports saloon. The time has come for the BMW M5 to be completely renewed. A renewal that begins to glimpse on the horizon and that will bring with it very important news. One of them, as we will see later, related to the mechanical section.
The project continues to advance at a good pace and proof of this are these new spy photos. Once again, the new BMW M5 2024 It has been photographed in broad daylight. However, in this sighting we find ourselves before a prototype dressed in a smaller amount of camouflage and, what is even more important, already wearing some elements that will be transferred to the production model.
Spy photos of the new BMW M5 2024
It’s the first time that a prototype of the new M5 It can be seen on the road open to traffic wearing a configuration of this type. It is true that the camouflage is still present and covers almost the entire exterior. But it is also obvious that it is less dense and this allows us to intuit more clearly what the shapes that the front and rear of this sports sedan will adopt will be like.
Despite this change, we still must not throw the bells on the fly. The reason? It still carries temporary elements that, logically, will not be transferred to the production version that will land in the dealerships. The rear lights are a clear example. It is a distinctive feature that, although the project has advanced, there is still a long way to go.
An important notice has been included in the front door panels and in the rear. «Electrified Vehicle», or what is the same, «Electrified Vehicle». A message that comes to ratify something that we have already advanced in previous publications. The new M5 will be an electrified vehicle. What’s more, it will succumb to electrification at a high level as BMW M opts for the plug-in hybrid technology (PHEV).
The plug-in hybrid engine of the new BMW M5
The German brand cannot be left behind and must offer an alternative to Mercedes-AMG’s AMG E Performance technology. The future of sports cars passes, inevitably, through electrification. Or at least this is the roadmap that has not only been set by Mercedes-AMG and BMW M, but also by Audi Sport.
The new M5 will be powered by a plug-in hybrid system made up of a 4.4-litre twin-turbocharged V8 petrol engine and a little electric motor. The gasoline engine will act on the front axle while the electric one will do the same on the rear. The total power will stay close to 700 hp and will boast M xDrive traction. In addition, a lithium-ion battery will allow you to travel for a certain distance in 100% electric mode. It will be handled through an automatic gearbox.
When will it be revealed? It is too early to venture a coming-out. The latest information indicates that it will hit the market as a 2024 model.
