Don’t stop the wheel of premieres! With a box office that is a bit limp, this Friday April 29 come to our movie theaters a good handful of premieres which, hopefully, will revitalize the situation based on good horror, television sagas and great references of contemporary Spanish cinema. Let’s review what the billboard holds for us.
The premieres of April 29, 2022
‘Downton Abbey: A New Era’ (‘Downton Abbey: A New Era’, 2022)
The film is directed by Simon Curtis, who has extensive experience in both television ?’Performance’, ‘David Copperfield’, ‘Cranford’…? as in cinema, where he has signed titles such as ‘My week with Marilyn’ or ‘Goodbye Christopher Robin’.
Interestingly, Curtis is married to Elizabeth McGovern, who plays Cora Crawley in the film. Everything stays at home.
Like almost all the great productions of recent years, ‘Downton Abbey: A New Era’ has been tumbling for a long season. Its initial release date was set for Christmas 2021, but the pandemic delayed it until March and, finally, April 2022.
It is a continuation of the first jump to the big screen of the IP. The first dates from 2019 and was directed by Michael Engler.
The cast, again, is made up of stars such as Miaggie Smith, Hugh Bonneville, Hugh Dancy and Dominic West.
Criticism in Espinof: ‘Downton Abbey: A new era’ is a wonderful finishing touch for the iconic British series
‘X’ (2022)
‘X’ is the new film by Ti West, son of the movement mumble gore American independent horror filmmaker and author of such marvels as ‘The House of the Devil’ or the disturbing ‘The Sacrament’.
It’s the first horror feature film from rapper Kid Cudi, who delivers a really fresh and solid performance.
Although set in Texas thanks to movie magic, the film was shot in New Zealand.
The porn film shot by the characters in the film is called ‘Farmers’s Daughters’. Interestingly, there was a pornographic film of the same title that dates back to 1976 and starred the actor and screenwriter Spalding Gray.
Ti West took advantage of the filming to shoot a sequel titled ‘Pearl’, whose trailer can be seen after the final credits.
In ‘X’, Mia Goth does an incredible double playing both the protagonist and the main antagonist of the film.
Criticism in Espinof: ‘X’ is the most punk of A24: a magnificent anachronism that crosses the bridges that unite pornography and terror
‘Alcarràs’ (2022)
‘Alcarràs’ is the new phenomenon of Spanish cinema, which comes to our cinemas after making history at the Berlinale by winning the Golden Bear for best film.
It is the second feature film by Carla Simón, who already captivated a large part of the public in 2017 with her ‘Verano 1993’.
With his debut film, Simón won the Goya for Best New Director, the award for Best First Film at the Berlinale ?where he also won the Grand Jury Prize?, the Biznaga de Oro at the Malaga Festival and a string of awards in various international competitions.
Criticism in Espinof: ‘Alcarràs’: a masterpiece of modern Spanish cinema that shows that ‘Summer 1993’ was not a mirage
Plus…
‘Where is Anne Frank’ (‘Where Is Anne Frank?’, 2021)
‘Vicky’s secret’ (‘Mystère’, 2021)
‘The boss’ (2022)
‘The world of yesterday’ (‘Le Monde d’hier’, 2022)
‘Go Fish: Let’s save the sea!’ (‘Go Fish’, 2019)
‘Trance’ (2021)
