The iPad Air of 2022 promised to be an interesting renewal of the model launched in 2020. According to rumors, among its main novelties are would include a screen with OLED technology which would increase the contrast ratio significantly.
The good news, however, was short-lived. Ming-Chi Kuo (via MacRumors) has ensured that Apple has canceled plans to launch an iPad Air 2022 with these characteristics due to the costs since they have not met the expectations of the company.
According to Kuo, announcing an iPad Air with OLED screen Could hurt sales of 11-inch iPad Pro with mini-LED screen, which would arrive next year. It would therefore make sense for the 2022 iPad Air to keep an LCD panel to increase the differences between the two products. Apple, in any case, continues to investigate new screen technologies that can be implemented on the iPad.
The iPad Air of 2022 will bet on LCD and the Pro models will not have OLED until 2023
In July, Display Supply Chain Consultants indicated that Apple would begin integrating OLED displays on iPad Pro from 2023. Hinting, therefore, that the next high-end iPad – which is expected to keep the size of 11 and 12.9 inches – will include mini-LED technology.
The goal of Apple, remember, would be to make a transition to micro-LED displays. This technology is still in development and promises to be much more efficient than LCD panels. Meanwhile, the screen technology that will be integrated into the 2023 models will allow you to enjoy a better contrast than LCD screens.
Beyond the iPad Air 2022 and iPad Pro, the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pros, which could be announced this October, too will arrive with mini-LED screens. The MacBook Air, in addition, will be renewed next year with this technology on its screen.
