August begins in need of laughter. While in movie theaters the good M. Night Shyamalan reminds us how fast all this life goes and the fragility of the human being, at home perhaps we will go looking for something more fun. We’ll see some of the best Netflix comedy series.
A summer of laughter
It’s hot, we are trying to find out if we can go on vacation or if the pandemic alerts are easing a bit. In order not to lose my mind I think that nothing better than a little the best comedy available on Netflix in serial format. Let’s go with them.
‘I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson’
I play a hand that there is nothing better or more fun anywhere. The second season of Tim Robinson’s sketch series improves on a formula that seemed foolproof. With production by The Lonely Island and in half a dozen episodes of just 15 minutes, Robinson, ex-SNL, shows that he is the best at his thing.
Some of the best skits you will see in your life (the teacher and the hamburger, the steaks, the father and the daughter in the restaurant, the Blues Brothers dance, the hat …) are here thanks to absolutely devastating timing, text and interpretations. Oh, and the collaborators, of course. Masterpiece.
‘W / Bob & David’
The other day Bob Odenkirk gave us a scare in the face, so now that he is recovered nothing better than to give him the tribute he deserves with his reunion with David Cross. The geniuses behind ‘Mr. Show’, one of the best comedy shows Always, they came back for a short series of shows full of their usual bad slobber. Indispensable.
‘Community’
A miracle that made Chevy Chase fans especially happy. Of course, in the case of the old Chevy, happiness does not usually take long to fade, but its absence did not alter the quality of a series too much as we had not seen for a long time. Springboard for stars like Alison Brie or Donald glover, ‘Community’ is the happy place to spend a grounded summer.
‘Wet Hot American Summer: First Day of Camp’
David Wain is one of the Most misunderstood comic geniuses of the last 20 years. Now that exactly that many years have passed since the hilarious original film, it’s not a bad time (or season) to bring back this prequel in which everyone is much older. Just for the concept and for that parade of stars (Paul Rudd, Amy Poehler, Bradley Cooper, Elizabeth Banks, Janeane Garofalo, Michael Ian Black …) is already a safe bet.
‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’
Assuming that anything with Andy Samberg is automatically better than anything else where it doesn’t appear, it is fair to acknowledge that this police comedy has not come to be. the favorite of half the world solely for him. The cast of ‘Brooklyn Nine-Nine’ is ideal and any fan of the series has their favorite character. Terry Crews, Melissa Fumero, Joe Lo Truglio and Chelsea Peretti have a license to kill with laughter.
‘Santa Clarita Diet’
No one in their right mind would have imagined that a comedy like ‘Santa Clarita Diet‘could be canceled so quickly. The couple formed by Drew Barrymore and Timothy Olyphant it became the funniest marriage on the platform. I would dare to say that without this series our beloved Olyphant would not have begun to show his paw so much in larger projects. If yours is comedy and laughter, this is your series. Oh Drew, what a boss you are.
‘Arrested Development’
If it is not a classic at the height of ‘Seinfeld’ it is because it was abruptly canceled after its third season and that the returns many years later never finish working. But this creation of Mitchell Hurwitz produced by Ron Howard (narrator of the series) and with directors of the fret of Joe and Anthony Russo, Paul Feig, Greg Mottola, Jason Bateman or Patty Jenkins discovered us to the true dysfunctional family the last century. What a cast, my god. What a deal.
‘The computer engineers’
British humor He was making himself wait on this list, so nothing better than to start with this group of morons who gave us such good hours when they came into our lives, hold on, 15 years ago. Richard Ayoade, Chris O’Dowd, Katherine Parkinson and Matt Berry (star of another Top series) drove us crazy with their work mechanics, their colleagues and the situations that can occur in the work environment. Window jumps, fires, flies, and a ton of questions about turning the router on and off. How good British set comedies feel.
‘Space Force’
We may not have given the love it deserves to the new collaboration between Greg Daniels and Steve Carell (both creators) behind the historic ‘The Office’. its sitcom of space adventures on land they are closer to what Armando Iannucci usually offers than to his adventures in the paper company, but their cast and a protagonist who turns out to be infallible when he loses his roles make the series a good investment in laughter.
‘Paquita Salas’
Just when nobody thought that we could have a small series full of bad grapes set in the world of our screens, I do not know, to the ‘Extras’, for example, the Javis’s got it right with the series of the most seedy representative of our audiovisual. Brays Efe, Belén Cuesta, Lidia San José and Yolanda Ramos are going out in a series that started where it played and ended where it deserved. Fabulous
‘The neighbor’
Miguel Esteban and Raúl Navarro, two of our best comedy creators, they adapted the Santiago García and Pepo Pérez comic with a salt shaker with an ambition, as they usually do, to walk around the house. Quim Gutiérrez’s comic talent multiplies surrounded by a dream cast where Adrián Pino steals the show. We are not very abundant with this type of series in Spain, hopefully with the next ‘García!’, The adaptation of another García comic, in this case with Luis Bustos, they will have more patience on HBO. Although with Eugenio Mira I believe that we are in the best possible hands.
