In our country, secondary education has been basic and compulsory since 1993 and is offered in both public and private schools in the following modalities: general secondary and technical secondary school. Both are dependent on the Ministry of Public Education (SEP) and to enter it is necessary to have completed primary education.
What is a technical high school?
This educational modality contemplates in its study plan the subjects of a general secondary school; however, it adds the learning of technological contents in various fields: commercial, industrial, service, agricultural, etc.
Likewise, the guiding idea of a technical secondary school is that the student knows how to take advantage of the resources and raw materials of the region, through the application of technology, so that he can later continue his studies in upper secondary education.
An example of the above is the study program of the technical secondary school specialized in Production Technologies, which covers the following fields of study and the student chooses one of them:
- Industrial design.
- Machines, tools and control systems.
- Design of metallic structures.
- Design and automotive mechanics.
- Electronic communication and control systems.
- Garment manufacturing and textile industry.
- Carpentry and wood industry.
- Design and maritime transport.
- Air conditioning and refrigeration.
What are the benefits of this educational modality?
As its name says, a technical secondary school allows the student to learn a technical and technological specialty; since they normally have active production units in their facilities; that is, workshops where students learn, first-hand, industrial, agricultural and commercial skills.
Similarly, in a technical secondary school you study for three years; the same time as in the general secondary school, only additional, the student receives a diploma that endorses his technological activity.
Later, you can benefit from taking one of the Modular Technological Training Courses for people over 15 years of age; among which the clothing industry, secretarial and computing stand out.
Brief History of Technical High School
The conception of the secondary school arose from the need to establish an intermediate stage between primary and high school. Consequently, between 1923 and 1924, the secondary school was formally born in our country, seeking to offer training that took into account the traits and needs of Mexican adolescents.
Curiously, secondary studies were part of preparatory education and had the purpose of preparing those who aspired to study a professional career; which benefited above all the middle classes in the urban areas of the country.
Finally, with the arrival of Lázaro Cárdenas to the presidency, an attempt was made for secondary education to include more Mexicans, therefore, subjects in production and technical preparation were added.
