Lamborghini is very close to announcing its LMDh project to compete in the queen class of the IMSA, although this program will not see the light until 2024 under a ‘careers-client’ model in which it will involve one of its trusted teams. And it is precisely these structures that are pushing the brand to allocate its short-term resources to the new category that will be born at IMSA in 2022. The objective of teams like FFF Racing, Grasser Racing Team or K-PAX is for Lamborghini to compete with their GT3s in the GTD Pro class and offer official pilots for your projects.
Giorgio sanna, director of Lamborghini Squadra Corse, was the first to confirm that the Italian brand has among its objectives for next season to have at least one car in the IMSA GTD Pro class: «We are still in a slightly early phase, but we are talking to all of our teams in case they have an interest in competing in the United States. The goal is to have at least one car in the GTD Pro category. We will make a decision on this at the end of the season, but we are evaluating the options we have to compete within a new category that IMSA has created ».
Andrea Caldarelli, driver and director of FFF Racing, was the first to show his interest in the GTD Pro category, confirming that there have already been discussions with those responsible for Lambroghini for a collaboration. Gottfried Grasser, head of the Grasser Racing Team, also explained that the Austrian formation wants to compete with two carsEither in the GTD Pro category or in the existing GTD class intended for amateur pilots. What’s more, K-PAX Racing as a California-based structure is also drawn as a real option, even to support FFF Racing
