In Mexico there is a record of 46 thousand 983 taco shops.
It is estimated that 2,862 are located in Mexico City.
It is also common to find them in countries like the United States.
The story of a taco shop in the United States has gone viral because of how strange and peculiar it is. It is about that the Mexican food place brought a priest to “confess” its employees, but it was all with the aim of spying on them, for which it received a million-dollar lawsuit.
Talking about taquerias is referring to Mexico, since it is defined as an “establishment where Mexican tacos are sold”, according to data from the Royal Spanish Academy (RAE).
According to data from the National Statistical Directory of Economic Units of the National Institute of Statistics and Geography, there is a record of 46,983 taco shops in the country, of which 2,862 are in Mexico City, 3,088 in Jalisco, and 970 in Nuevo Leon.
Likewise, these food outlets have become very common in other countries such as the United States and Europe, due to the large migration of Mexicans that is registered.
Taquería uses a priest to “confess” its employees
The viral case of a taco shop in the United States is attracting attention and it is that it brought a priest in order for its employees to tell him about their sins.
The case that stopped before the US authorities happened at the Garibaldi taqueria, which was managed by Eduardo Hernández, Hector Manuel Martínez Galindo and Alejandro Rodríguez, who were ordered by a federal judge from the Eastern District of California to pay $140,000, which is equivalent to 2 million 396 thousand 919 Mexican pesos in back wages and damages to restaurant employees as part of a settlement in the case.
According to local media, the local strategy of bringing a priest was because the business already had an investigation at the door for allegedly keeping the tips of the workers and not paying overtime.
Likewise, the information reviewed by various media outlets indicates that various affected employees declared, as an example, María Parra, who commented that a priest came to the business to hear them confess their “sins, although the talk was not as usual, since the parish priest I would ask them strange questions about their personal lives.”
“He asked me if I’ve ever been pulled over for speeding, drank alcohol, or stolen anything. The priest had mostly work related questions, which I found strange. The priest asked me if I had stolen something at work, if I was late for my job, if I did something to harm my employer and if I had any intention with my job, ”he adds in his statement.
To this statement is added that of another employee who, according to what was threatened by the local to take immigration measures if he did not assist with the dynamics of the priest.
“This employer’s despicable attempts to retaliate against employees were aimed at silencing workers, obstructing an investigation and preventing the recovery of unpaid wages.”
In the investigation of the company Che Garibaldi Inc., owner of Taquería Garibaldi, carried out by the Department of Labor, it was learned that the owners did not pay around 70,000 dollars in back wages either.
Likewise, it was announced that Taquería Garibaldi operates two restaurants, one in Sacramento and the other in Roseville, both in northern California. And it was thrown, according to the investigations, that the owners refused to pay their workers for the extra hours they worked after the 40 hours established in their work weeks.
Although it seems a strange case, it shows how many companies seek to get rid of labor problems, demonstrating the bad practices that they register in their talent management.
