As part of a strategy to gain an audience, Swatch has ready a new line of watches inspired by ‘Dragon Ball’, one of the most popular and important anime in the industry.
Since the arrival of the pandemic, anime has been consolidating in the public’s taste, both inside and outside Japan.
Data published in the 2019-2020 annual report of the AJA (Association of Japanese Animation), in 2020, the anime market was worth $24.23 billion worldwide.
After the health emergency that shook the whole world, the consumption of this type of animated content grew significantly. In Japan alone, in a period between September 2019 and September 2020, Netflix obtained 2 million more subscribers, reaching 5 million in total in that country, also with data from the AJA.
Starting from this, ‘Dragon Ball’ is one of the best-selling animated series in the world, second only to One Piece. In that senseMexico is one of the main consumers of anime worldwide.
In 2020, during the presentation of the ‘Dragon Ball Experience’ it was announced that Mexico is the third country in the world with the most fans of the animated series, as revealed by Bandai Mexico’s Marketing Director himself, who, in an interview for local media, mentioned the following:
“Mexico is the third country with the most Dragon Ball fans in the world. With the ‘Dragon Ball Experience’ event, we want to celebrate all those fans who have kept the enthusiasm for Dragon Ball burning for generations, to have this experience.”
Swatch joins the “fever” for ‘Dragon Ball’ and launches new watches for fans
At present, the use of watches has been declining, due to the fact that any mobile device (smartphone) already has one built in.
In fact, in this sense, the Swatch Group, being one of the most important firms in the field, has suffered an ups and downs in its sales. In accordance with a company reportin 2020, the year of the pandemic, its sales had a significant decrease, reaching 5.6 billion Swiss francs, a decrease of more than 2.5 million with respect to the turnover registered in 2019.
Now, Swatch, as other brands from various industries have done, has a new collection ready with which it seeks to reach anime fans and, more specifically, those of ‘Dragon Ball’ who, to tell the truth, are not few.
