The dataminer Pavel Djundik, creator of the well-known Steam DB website, has shared a new discovery through his Twitter account: attending to new lines of code discovered in the latest version of Valve’s platform, the parents of Half-Life are planning to add a characteristic of QR reader to the launcher.
Based on their findings, users will receive different messages linking the login screen with the eponymous app to smart devices; which means that it should be possible to read the QR code of your gaming rig with your phone so you don’t have to handwrite information such as your Steam Guard username, password, and security code.
Theoretically, the QR functionality will arrive in parallel to Steam Deck, the hybrid between PC and console that will begin to distribute next December for those who have managed to reserve the first units of the device. The rest will have to wait several more months throughout 2022 to be able to get one.

For now, we’ll have to settle for a catch which, Djundik explains, is for now nothing more than provisional material: it is possible that the final design will evolve between now and December. Or beyond. The truth is that it is very familiar to the current model, with the option of manually entering your credentials or using the QR code that appears on the right.
