Starbucks Oleatethe drinks that “loose your stomach”
The drinks that are only available in a few stores around the world, generated controversy thanks to a publication of an alleged barista in Reddit.
“Have you tried them? I wonder how many people will experience what happened to some of our team. Half the team tried it out yesterday and some ended up…needing to use the bathroom, if you know what I mean. Honestly I’m scared to try it because I already have stomach issues,” the user wrote.
The same person who put the issue on the table said that his store manager “does not want us to share this information with customers”, but that this is “pretty screwed up”.
With comments for and against the innovative drinks, another user of the social network wrote “Caffeine is a stimulant for the intestines and oil is relaxing. So yeah, a wonderful idea from Starbucks.” Another comment in favor was “green olive oil is normal and usually indicates better quality… Green does not mean it is bad or gross”.
However, the negative opinions are more abundant. “I tried them and honestly after drinking them I felt sick to my stomach,” someone else said.
“Cold brew is fine until you try the foam, because it’s two pumps of olive oil (the foam is green). Worst of all was the latte for me. They immediately hit you with just olive oil and I wanted to throw up afterwards, yes I don’t recommend it,” another wrote. ‘redditor’ who says he is also a barista.
But it was not the only network that has opinions on the matter. On Twitter a user said “That starb oleate drink makes my stomach do the talking.”
“Starbucks oleate is a legitimate laxative,” tweeted a person.
Why do people dislike Starbucks drinks with olive oil so much?
Extra virgin olive oil has been a method of relieving constipation since the late 19th century. However, does putting a little in your morning coffee make it something of a ‘laxative’?
“Oil of any kind can help stool move through the digestive tract, especially if you’ve been constipated for a while,” Frances Largeman-Roth, RDN, explained to TODAY.com. “Olive oil can certainly have this effect as well.”
In addition, he said that the combination of the oil with the coffee, which is also a digestive stimulant, can do a double effect and send you straight to the bathroom. “The effects may be more pronounced if the Oleate is drunk on an empty stomach,” she added.
