Star Wars: Visionsthe animated series that brought together animated shorts from several Japanese animation production companies on Disney +, will have a new season
The Serie, Star Wars: Visions premiered on Disney + in 2021, it was the first time that the anime explored stories within the franchise created by George Lucas. The anthology series, made by seven of the largest Japanese anime studios, featured nine episodes exploring stories that took place at many different points throughout the Star Wars timeline. Although it was something new for the franchise, Visions received very positive reviews.
One of the most popular episodes of Visions was the first: The duel, which follows a character who goes by the name of Ronin hunting down Sith warriors and collecting their kyber crystals upon defeating them. A sequel to that story was released shortly after the series’ premiere in novel form, and many fans have campaigned for other episodes of the series to receive the same treatment, while also pushing for a second season.
Wishes I know seem to be fulfilled very soon, as there are rumors suggesting that a new season is already in the works.
A second season is confirmed
Cinelinx has published that the second season of Star Wars: Visions is currently in process. And he affirms that multiple sources have not only confirmed it, but that it will arrive in the fall of this year, and that September and October are the possible months that have been considered for its launch. The first season premiered on September 22, 2021 on Disney+, so a fall release for the second season would come almost a year apart.
The site also states that some of the Japanese anime studios that worked on the first season will return and that there will be continuations of some of the stories that were previously featured.
There is also a rumor suggesting that an official announcement of the second season will be made in the Star Wars Celebration which will take place from May 26 to 29 in Anaheim, California. So we could see the first advance in the expected convention.
Star Wars: Visions, a place for experimentation
Star Wars: Visions is very different from other projects in the galactic saga that are released directly to Disney +, since they do not have a clear continuity in the timeline established in the Skywalker saga and by having each chapter with a different animation studio we can see how they explore different types of style in the animation.
It is also the only series on the streaming platform that has released all its chapters at the same time, when the normal thing in Disney + is to release a weekly chapter in all its productions, this was due in part to the short duration of its episodes, which consisted between 10 to 20 minutes long. So it’s safe to assume that all episodes of the new season will drop on the same day, just like the previous one.
You can watch the first season of Star Wars: Visions with your Disney+ subscription.
