starwars celebrates its international day by opening a 300-meter exhibition in Madrid with collector’s items from the saga
Star Wars celebrates its international day (May 4) by opening a 300-square-meter collector’s product exhibition open to the public on the second floor of the El Corte Inglés shopping center in Sanchinarro (Madrid) until May 29th. The exhibition will host around 20 items from the same private collection that dates back to the year 2000 when firms such as Sideshow, EFX, Kotokubiya, Hasbro, Gentle Giant or Code-3 begin manufacturing replicas of the characters, spaceships or weapons with reason for the popularity that Star Wars acquires at that time.
All the pieces that make up the collection are collector’s items and, therefore, impossible to acquire on the primary market. Unique pieces, licensed by Disney and provided with their corresponding certificate of authenticity that faithfully reproduces the characteristics of the Star Wars universe. The figures are part of print runs that range between 25 and 1,000 units and were purchased directly from the manufacturer or through the secondary market on the Internet.
One of the most exclusive pieces in the collection is the 1:1 scale statue of Darth Maul (Episode I, The Phantom Menace), as Gentle Giant only made 25 units worldwide. Made with absolute realism in each of his details, this figure of the faithful servant of the Dark Lord Palpatine seems ready to come to life to attack his old enemy Obi Wan Kenobi. It is also part of a very limited edition, only 50 units, Darth Vader bust at 1:1 scale, that allows us to contemplate the face of Anakin Skywalker when his mask is removed.
Other articles of the exhibition to highlight:
- Jabba’s Palace Throne Room Diorama made up of more than 10 1:6 scale figures from Sideshow.
- Millennium Falcon diorama made by Attakus.
- 1:1 scale bust of Jango Fett, a limited edition of 300 units, manufactured by Sideshow.

- Busts of Captain Rex and Commander Cody manufactured by Sideshow at 1:2 scale.
In addition to items from the private collection, a limited edition replica of Darth Vader’s suit from The Empire Strikes Back.
In the 1970s, fans declared May 4 as the official Star Wars day. The reason was based mainly on the fact that the beginning of the most popular phrase in Lucasfilm movies, “May the Force be with you” (originally “May the force be with you”), phonetically resembles the date in English. Since then, this day, and even the entire month of May, is presented as the perfect excuse for fans around the world to pay tribute to the most famous saga in history.
