sony is one of the biggest tech companies on the planet and now they’ve just revealed how far along they are in developing mass-produced humanoid robots.
The reality is that many companies are in that game, with Tesla and Elon Musk even involved in projects of this type that contemplate the development of automata in the form of humans.
But what few suspected is that Sony had never made noise on this issue because they were not really in the early stages of creating this technology, but frankly they had already traveled a good part of the way.
This is how the company could venture into this field with extreme ease, where the process for the development of a human-shaped robot would be much more agile for them and mass production could start almost immediately.
Only there is a small detail: the Japanese company has not yet defined what practical and commercial approach it could give to a project of this type. Simply because there is not a market that has developed enough.
Sony’s dilemma with the mass manufacturing of humanoid robots
The Reuters news agency has published the details of a series of statements by Hiroaki Kitano, Sony’s chief technology officer.
Where the executive ended up revealing that Sony would actually be very advanced in the field of robotics. And that in fact they have an interest in launching products and services in this field as well as in the metaverse.
But there are details to be clear to them about the panorama before making any move and starting the mass production of automata:
“In terms of technology, several companies in the world, including this one, have enough accumulated technology to make them quickly once it becomes clear what use would be promising.
We will make an investment (for manufacturing) only when such an investment is deemed necessary. We see potential in humanoid robots, but we also believe that other forms of robots are also very important.”
Regarding the metaverse, Kitano highlighted the content as the central axis and point of greatest relevance for this project. So apparently, as hinted, that would be his main point of interest in the not too distant future.
Sony Group Corporation will increase its research and development in both fields, but it will be some time before we see any products.
