Today the financial results for fiscal year 2021 were published for Sonywhere the company reported a total of 47.4 million subscribers to PlayStation Plus during March 2022, so it has 600 thousand fewer users than in the last quarter, and 200 thousand less than a year ago.

According to Sony’s CFO, one of the reasons why the number of active users decreased is that the requirement to stay home is no longer as strong as in 2020, at the start of the pandemic. CFO Hikori Totoki says that although the number of active users has decreased in the last two years, overall the trend is positive.
The stay-at-home requirement was a factor, but after it subsided, it seems to me that the high levels of interaction have remained.”
Although the number of subscriptions and active users has dropped slightly, Totoki says he doesn’t see much concern as he believes the high levels of engagement from active users will continue. In addition, the new PlayStation Plus, which arrives next month in our region, is expected to have a positive impact on these aspects.
We will start the renovation [de PS Plus] from June onwards in a scaled way and we would like to make it grow steadily with the support of users.”

After the announcement of the new PS Plus subscription sales had increased, as some users took the opportunity to extend their subscriptions before the price increased. However, last month Sony temporarily disabled subscription stacking to prevent this situation, much to the chagrin of some gamers.
