Marvel has revealed that Doctor Octopus had far more power than he does today and was capable of making a fool of Spider-Man.
Spider-Man has some of the most powerful enemies in the entire Marvel universe, such as Venom, for example. However, there is one that, although it is not currently relevant in terms of powers, was initially considered one of the strongest and had the greatest chance of making life impossible for Peter Parker’s alter ego.
We refer to Doctor Octopus, who is often recognized for his intellect and tenacity to chase and try to defeat Spider-Man. However, although today he could not be considered one of the most powerful villains, the story was different when this character was created. In fact, he used to be much stronger than fans imagine. Next, we tell you all the details.
Doctor Octopus used to be much more powerful than he is now
Otto Octavius, better known as Doctor Octopus, used to be a respected scientist who began his career at the Atomic Research Center after graduating from MIT. Among the most important achievements of this character, we have his participation in the discovery of a way to manage radioactive atomic particles at safe distances. To do this, he developed robotic arms.
The origin story of Doctor Octopus is well known, but it was told in the The Amazing Spider-Man comic #3created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditkoon which Otto was working in the lab while put these metal arms to the test to handle dangerous radioactive material, but that, after a mistake, the particles exploded. By the time she woke up, in the hospital, her arms were grafted onto his body and controlled by his mind, but they had great power, since they were exposed to the atomic accident.
But with this accident not only did he gain the power to control the metal arms, but his mind also changed and he now desired power. He had become a powerful megalomaniac. And the fans would confirm this during his first encounter against Spider-Manbecause the latter’s fame had gone to his head due to the ease with which he defeated common villains and it was thanks to Otto that he tasted the bitter taste of defeat.
The true power of Otto Octavius was “nerfed” in Marvel comics
As we’ve mentioned recently, Spider-Man had gotten cocky, so he needed a dose of reality to bring him back down to earth. And this was taken care of by Doctor Octopus, who, during his first battle, defeated Spidey.
In fact, to better understand this, we can focus on Otto’s dialogue, as he told Spider-Man that the strength of this hero was nothing more than that of a spider, while his was that of the energy of an atom. This means that, in essence, its strength was similar to that of an atomic bomb.
When you combine this tremendous power with Otto’s great intellect, then you have one of the most powerful villains in Marvel comics. Nevertheless, he did not show this super strength againSince, from then on, Spider-Man could just snag him like an ordinary city thief. Therefore, we can affirm that the power of Doctor Octopus was nerfed.
