A few months ago, in April to be more precise, Apple introduced new privacy changes, which are already wreaking havoc on Snapchat.
In the powerful world of social networks, Snapchat is one of the most popular among users and one of the fastest growing in this time of pandemic and confinement that we lived through last year.
Although it has not reached the numbers on TikTok or other networks, the truth is that the growth of the application has been constant and, in general, it has not presented red numbers that show the opposite with respect to the users of the platform.
Now, what is happening with the application is that these changes by Apple are affecting its income. What is worse, Facebook, Twitter and Alphabet could also be affected as part of these decisions of the apple company.
Yesterday, Snap Inc., parent of Snapchat, reported that its quarterly revenue had a 25 percent decline in its operations, this due, directly, to the privacy changes that Apple recently implemented.
Basically, Apple’s changes force applications to ask users whether they want their data to be tracked or collected, naturally resulting in a negative response from users.
And it is that, of course, Internet users do not want their data to be tracked, because, in itself, it is not known for what purpose it would be collected.
According to data from the mobile device analysis company, Flurry, which has been cited by the weekly Barron’s, of the total 100 percent, only 16 percent mentioned that they do accept that the applications collect their personal information; the remaining 84 percent opted for a refusal, which, inevitably, has affected the interests of the applications.
So far, only Snapchat has reported on how it has affected Apple’s new privacy regulations, although it is estimated that others, such as Facebook, Twitter or Alphabet, are also on the list, it is just a matter of waiting to have a better perspective.
In this context, in addition, Snapchat lost around 72 million dollars during the last quarter, which is equivalent to 5 cents per share.
However, it should be noted that this has not diminished the growth in terms of platform users, since they grew 23 percent year-on-year, achieving, so far, bringing together 306 million active users.
Of course, the economic losses have been heavy for the platform and the avalanche is expected to continue to wreak havoc on social media.
Within all this, Snapchat continues to generate content and functions in order to offer a better experience to the users of the platform.
