Skoda has taken on the responsibility of developing the Volkswagen Group’s MQB A0 platform globally. It is the architecture used as the basis for the entry models of the different brands that make up the aforementioned automotive group. The new models that will see the light on this platform will be specially destined for India, Russia, Southeast Asia and Latin America.

opted for the Skoda brand as a spearhead to enter and / or consolidate in emerging markets that it considers key. A clear example of this new strategy that the aforementioned colossus of the automotive industry is following is in India. The first fruits have already been seen there, the new Skoda Kushaq. A product offensive developed especially for these markets is underway.
Now, the aforementioned automotive group goes one step further by announcing that Skoda will be responsible for the MQB A0 platform globally. For the first time in its history, the Czech manufacturer will assume responsibility for an architecture aimed at the global market. An announcement that arrives shortly after having adapted the aforementioned platform to Indian territory. We refer to the MQB A0 IN platform.
Skoda-developed MQB A0 platform will be key in emerging markets
Skoda is now the company responsible for developing the Volkswagen Group’s global MQB A0 platform. This architecture will be used by the different brands of the Group to develop new entry models aimed primarily at emerging markets. The manufacturer places special emphasis on those regions with great growth potential, including India, Russia, Africa, Southeast Asia and Latin America.
The MQB A0 platform is used worldwide and forms the basis of the new models with combustion engines in the entry segments. For example, in Europe, it is used by the Audi A1, SEAT Ibiza, Skoda Fabia and Volkswagen Polo. Segment B plays a leading role in emerging markets, since it is in this category that the bulk of new car sales are concentrated.
At the moment the Czech automaker has already assumed responsibility, within the Volkswagen Group, in leading the company in India, Russia and North Africa. As we have pointed out at the beginning of the article, the new Kushaq is the first great fruit that this strategic plan has produced. An SUV that is powered by MQB A0 IN platform and that it is already being produced and commercialized in the Indian territory.
Skoda has also confirmed its plans to offer the new Kushaq, in the medium term, in other emerging markets. In addition, the second model based on the MQB A0 IN architecture will be presented at the end of the year. The new Skoda Slavia, a saloon that will take over from the veteran Skoda Rapid and that will be located one notch below the popular and fireproof Skoda Octavia.
