When two years ago the fashion of the notch began, to many it seemed a terrible alternative to be able to expand the size of the screens of our phones but maintaining similar dimensions. The passage of time has given the reason to manufacturers, although now they are in the process of making this element disappear from our screens, except Sharp. No, Sharp has just presented its new flagship that directly has two notch, the Sharp AQUOS R5G.
The truth is that it is not the first phone we see with two notch by this manufacturer. Moreover, of the few times, we have talked about Sharp, it is because they have done something extravagant. Anyway, it is one of the leading manufacturers of screens on the market, in addition, being the first brand that dared to launch a mobile frame, long before the original Xiaomi Mi MIX.
Sharp AQUOS R5G: two notch, Snapdragon 865 and four rear cameras
The first thing that has struck us this Sharp AQUOS R5G is for being one of the first phones to reach the market with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor. For now, the two most important phones with this feature are the Samsung Galaxy S20 ( in its version with Qualcomm processor) and the Xiaomi Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro. In addition, this phone has a 120 Hz screen, something that in Sharp phones is gaining importance and in which they were also pioneers. With this phone, they are the first to incorporate UFS 3.1 storage.
Now, the reason we have really dared to tell you more about this terminal is its controversial design. In case your notch in water drop format (not even softened) was not enough, this Sharp AQUOS R5G also has a notch at the bottom of the screen, wider, but less invasive, due to the touch button found in the bottom of the phone. It’s something we saw with the Sharp AQUOS R2, but something more polished.
Anyway, today having a button or the fingerprint reader on the phone frame does not seem attractive enough to have a second notch on the screen. Moreover, with navigation gestures and fingerprint readers under the screen, we are completely expendable. Anyway, its characteristics are the best we find in the market, as we can see below:
- 6.5-inch LCD PRO IGZO screen in QuadHD + resolution (3,168 x 1,440 pixels)
- Double notch
- 120 Hz refresh rate
- Processor Qualcomm Snapdragon 865
- 12 GB of RAM
- 256 GB of UFS 3.1 storage
- Quad rear camera:
- 48-megapixel wide-angle f / 2.9 (8K recording)
- Main 12.2 megapixels f / 1.7
- Telephoto 12.2 megapixels f / 2.7
- 3D ToF sensor
- 16.4-megapixel front camera f / 2.0
- 3,730 mAh battery
- 5G connectivity, WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.1
- Approximate dimensions of 162 x 75 x 8.9 mm
- A weight of 189 grams
- Android 10
The truth is that we find a phone with a very interesting feature sheet, but its front design seems completely out of place, especially with the good alternatives we have in the market today. We don’t know its price yet, but hopefully it will be sold only in Japan.
