- “GOLPERÚ is ready to broadcast. We will have a great grid with Alianza and Universitario”, affirms Beingolea
What was the impression left by Sporting Cristal in Brazil after the match against Fluminense?
The feeling is positive to have a team that comes to Brazil and goes out to play without fearing the players. Fluminense is a team that really enjoys playing with the ball, but Cristal had the opportunity to score in the first half with a header. We also had a chance at the end, when Felipe Melo made a mistake. I think that playing equally against a Brazilian team shows Cristal’s good performance in the competition and now we must work to be in Sudamericana.
What do you think about the outstanding performance of the Brazilian players in Sporting Cristal?
I am very satisfied with it. After my time at Cristal and Peru, the opportunities for Brazilian players closed off a bit. However, they are now opening again. Cristal once again is providing opportunities for talented players and is competing under a great coach who is used to big name teams. It is an opportunity and I sincerely hope that this door remains open so that other Brazilian players can reach Peruvian soccer.
The Brazilian market has not been very exploited by Peruvian football…
I think that Brazilian players face a difficulty in terms of language, since in South America they mainly speak Spanish, while we speak Portuguese. This may be a small obstacle, but today I see that this barrier is being overcome. The arrival of Tiago, Brenner and Ignacio has opened a door and I sincerely hope it stays open for a long time, due to the way they are playing and performing in Cristal. There are many Brazilian players here that I know could stand out if they had the opportunity to play in a market like Peru. In addition, Cristal’s outstanding participation against Fluminense, the great game they played, will surely motivate other Brazilian players to look at Peruvian soccer as a good option.
Why do you think Brenner Marlos took so long to appear in front of the goal?
Before starting the Cup, I had the opportunity to talk to some people in Peru, and they asked me the question about Brenner, who was playing but couldn’t score goals. At that time, I expressed the importance of being patient, since he was playing in another country, with another language and needed to adapt to the team’s style of play. For a ‘9’, it is essential that the team plays according to him, and not the other way around. However, As time has passed, I think Cristal has gotten used to playing with Brenner and he is in a great moment, scoring the necessary goals. This is very positive and proves your worth. I hope he continues on that path and that Cristal concentrates his efforts on the South American, but also on the Clausura, since Alianza has already been crowned champion of the Apertura. It is important to compete and prevent Alianza from achieving the three-time championship.
What aspects could you highlight of Brenner’s game as a striker?
Let me give you two examples of players that I had the chance to see in Peru, like Maestri and Bonet, who also played that ‘9′ role for Cristal. The team has always had the presence of a center forward. Brenner is a player who is constantly on the pitch. He leaves the area, opens spaces for the other forwards and, thanks to his vitality and youth, he manages to reach the area to score goals. He is versatile and his mobility allows him to contribute in different ways to the team’s game. Despite his mobility, Brenner is also capable of playing with his back to goal, which is critical for facing defenders and creating chances for his teammates. His performance in this facet of the game is also remarkable.
What is your opinion about Ignacio Da Silva and why do you think he is considered the best reinforcement in recent years?
Ignacio Da Silva is without a doubt an outstanding defender, and his performance on various teams in Brazil backs up that claim. It is not surprising to see him shine at the Cristal club, as he proves to be a great player. It is desirable that he continue with the team for many years, not only because of his ability on the field, but also because of the maturity he brings to those around him. Da Silva shows remarkable leadership in defense, something he was able to personally observe yesterday in the live match. In addition to his constant communication with his defense teammates, he plays with determination and aggressiveness. In general, he is a very talented player.
How important is it that your compatriots have come to a club like Sporting Cristal?
Cristal is a team that provides opportunities and, on many occasions, also shows patience towards its players. A good example of this is Brenner, who might not have had the same patience on another big team in Peru. Cristal has the ability to work with young and foreign players, and always supports them. I am sure that the team will achieve good results this year and have a good chance of winning a title, which is very important.
We could see that you went to the team’s concentration hotel…
It was a very special reunion. I really missed the people I shared a dressing room with and are still at the club, since I haven’t been to Peru for a long time and Cristal hasn’t been to Rio de Janeiro in a long time. I also had the opportunity to speak with Jorge Soto, with whom I had not had many conversations recently, as well as with members of the board of directors and the coaching staff. Being around people who I appreciate and feel like they appreciate me back is really comforting. The Cristal fans also show me a lot of affection, just as I feel affection for them. It’s incredible how people still talk about the Chalaca goal that I scored 20 years ago; people keep remembering him. It is gratifying to know that I have left a mark in the hearts of the fans. I sincerely hope that this connection and affection lasts for many more years.
What could Jorge Soto tell you about the way Tiago Nunes works?
Yes, I had a brief conversation and he told me that the manager works very hard, as you would expect. These days, it’s common for coaches to push themselves to the max during training sessions. Although they have less time to prepare, the intensity is very high. He also said that Mosquera is an exceptional person and coach, with a unique approach. However, now there is Thiago and he assured me that he works tirelessly and with great determination. At first, people may feel some change, but I think things are normalizing day by day.
Given your job of taking Brazilian players to different parts of the world, is there the possibility of exploring the Peruvian market as well?
Definitely, our work of taking Brazilian players to different parts of the world allows us to also consider the Peruvian market. We have had success sending players to Europe and Asia, and we are open to exploring new opportunities in Peru. I was recently talking with the Cristal team and we raised the possibility of presenting our talented players so that they can have the opportunity to play in Peruvian soccer. We are excited to expand our connections and provide that opportunity to Brazilian players in Peru.
