The prestigious actor Samuel L. Jackson deals with Marvel Studios in his own way. He changes lines of dialogue and phrases in the script at will.
Samuel L Jackson talked with Collider recently about his experience in Marvel Studios. As you know, the actor will reprise his role as Nick Fury on the MCU Phase 4. When specifically asked if he modifies his lines of dialogue in the scripts, the Hollywood star admitted that he did. She defended herself by stating that she already knows how he sounds and how this character thinks, after so long. Therefore, she believes that she has more right than anyone else to contribute his grain of sand to Nick Fury’s life.
«Depends a bit on the situationSaid Samuel L. Jackson about changing lines of dialogue in Marvel Studios scripts. «I’ve played Nick Fury for so long that I already know what he sounds like and how he thinks, what he feels in every moment. Writers sit at home and write. If the writer is a fan of these superhero stories, he knows how to do it. I’ve had directors who have written comics, so when they tell me to say the line that he has written… You can say, ‘Okay, I’m talking like in the comics.’ There are other directors who will say, ‘Say it like Nick Fury would say it.’ Which basically means ‘Say it like Jules from Pulp Fiction or Ordell from Jackie Brown, or any of those smart, interesting characters you’ve played before. Help me’. And I can do it too, of course«.
The actor catches the writers in private to tell them about the changes
After saying this, Samuel L. Jackson revealed how he helps the Marvel Studios writers rewrite the lines Nick Fury says in a scene. «Sometimes when I’m studying the lines for the next day or the scene we’re doing, I say, ‘The writer knows what he wants to say, but he hasn’t done it.’ That’s why I write it and help it. The next day, when I get to work, I’ll take the writer in private and explain, ‘Look, I know you wrote this. But this way is better to say that as Nick Furia’. They’ll be like, ‘Oh my gosh! Well, you’re Nick Fury, so it’s better this way’«.
On the other hand, Samuel L. Jackson reaffirmed his love for this Marvel Studios character. Despite the years that he has been characterizing it, he continues to enjoy it like the first day. «I love Nick Fury. He is a guy who doesn’t have superpowers, who is in charge of superpowered people and they respect him. He is special. A leader of different men. It is very satisfying to be part of a world that I admired for so long, when he was a child. I still go to comic shops and buy comics and enjoy them. But to be able to be that character in the movies… It’s the same as when I did Afro Samurai or any character in the comics. For me, it means being part of a cultural canon that people respect and idolize.«, he sentenced.
