Two flexible smartphones, two new smartwatches, and the new version of the Samsung Buds Pro headphones topped the list. Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked.
The South Korean technology company unveiled its new product portfolio in which the commitment to flexible or foldable phones was the driving force behind the presentation, which focused on two new teams: Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 5G.
This is the third iteration of this type of smartphone by the brand, and although they had remained an item of a particular niche– not only for the price– in this new version of their foldables, Samsung said that its bet is to expand the category so that they are more accessible to users.
“Foldables are no longer a niche issue,” says Samsung.
One of the most anticipated smartphones during Unpacked was the Z Fold 3, the brand’s flagship phone in this category that now looks more robust in its finishes, weighs 11 grams less than the previous version and includes new productivity features, such as a task sidebar and fluidity to navigate sites and apps on both screens.
This version of Z Fold 3 features a 6.2-inch Amoled screen when closed and 7.6-inch fully open; the refresh rate is 120 HZ and although Samsung did not want to pigeonhole the gadget as a team only for gamers or only for productivity, one of its approaches is that you can do with it many functions that before you could perhaps do on a large screen such as the Galaxy Note, which will not have a new version this year.
The camera arrangement on this foldable is three 12-megapixel rear, one more than 10-megapixel when closed and a front 4-megapixel, which is completely covered by the display panel.
As for the computer processor, it has a Snapdragon 888 and the brand pointed out that this configuration will be the one that reaches the Mexican market.
The Z Fold 3 will integrate the S Pen for the first time of the brand and will hit the market in three different colors: Phantom Green, Phantom Black and Phantom Silver.
Galaxy Z Flip 3 5G: Nostalgia That Bends
In another bet on folding screens, Samsung released the third version of Flip, which unlike the Fold bends its screen down to close like a shell, a common design in the nineties.
The panel is a screen 6.7 inch Amoled and when closed it has a 1.9-inch front screen, which despite being small integrates several quick functions and up to 8 notification widgets or to take selfies by pressing the side button, although you can also configure it with gestures.
This screen is four times larger than the previous model, which makes it more practical and useful to the touch.
The processor in this computer is also a Snapdragon 888 and the screen refresh rate is 120 Hz.
As for the cameras, this version of the Flip has two 12-megapixel lenses on the back and a 10-megapixel front camera.
Both the Z Fold 3 and the Z Flip 3 will arrive in Mexico in the coming months, according to Samsung, although at the moment we do not have the confirmed date and availability.
Goodbye Tizen, hello Wear OS
In addition to smartphones, two other gadgets that attracted attention in Unpacked were the new versions of the smartwatch from Samsung: Galaxy Watch 4 and that now has a Classic version.
These two teams are the first watches of the brand that no longer use the software for Samsung wearables and integrate the Wear OS by Google instead; this announcement was made in the past Google I / O and now it materializes.
The difference between the two really lies in the exterior, as the Classic’s aluminum finish makes it look more elegant and it has a rotating bezel that allows you to navigate its menus from the face.
The screen in both models is touch, although the basic model it does not integrate the navigation bezel.
An improvement in these wearables is that both integrate new sensors in addition to the heart rate and electrocardiogram, since they can now measure your body composition in a matter of 15 seconds, as a smart scale would, through a BIA sensor. This new sensor takes 2,400 data points to generate this body scan.
Regarding its processing capacity, it has a 5-nanometer chip, fast charging, IPX8 certification and is designed to be integrated with other gadgets in the brand’s ecosystem such as television, headphones and others.
The new Galaxy Watch 4 will be available starting August 27 in select markets. The price of the Classic model will be 349 dollars (6,971 pesos approximately) and 249 dollars (4,975 pesos) for the basic model.
New buds
The latest release of this Unpacked was the new version of the brand’s true wireless headphones, Galaxy Buds 2, which will come in more colors such as lavender and gray and will continue to have active noise cancellation, gesture control, customization, as well as fast and wireless charging when placed on another Galaxy, such as a Z Flip 3, for example.
Prices and availability We will confirm all the new Samsung products for Mexico in the next few days.
