After rumors that samsung could be changing its internal browser app’s default search engine from Google to Bing, perhaps in time for the Galaxy S24, a new report suggests that change is no longer taking place.
This comes from Wall Street Journal, and like the original rumor, there’s not much to go on about. The WSJ, quoted in TechRadarsay what an internal review on whether Samsung should move from Google to Bing was put on hold.
The South Korean company is apparently concerned about user disruption and a deteriorating relationship with Google. Samsung was thinking about a possible change, perhaps impressed by the rapid deployment of various Bing features with artificial intelligence.

Another factor to consider in all of this is that we’re talking about Samsung’s own Internet browser app. Google, of course, would have been front and center in Chrome for Android. However, the move would have made many headlines.
Google is known to actually pay Apple to be the default search engine in Safari, an arrangement perhaps easier for those in Cupertino to swallow, since it doesn’t have a search engine of its own. The Mountain View company then rakes in billions in ad revenue through searches done on iOS, in addition to Samsung phones.
This new report quotes “people familiar with the matter” as saying that Samsung “isn’t permanently closing the door” on switching to Bing in the futureso Google executives may still have work to do.
