One of the teams that has succeeded with its foreign reinforcements this season has been Lima Alliance. The three players who arrived this year -the Colombians Pablo Sabbag and Andres Andradeand the Argentine santiago garcia– They are responding and are being key pieces in the victories of the intimate team. The ‘Sheikh’, above all (the first of those mentioned), has earned the affection of the fans thanks to his performance.
Sabbag already has 6 annotations in 10 games played. And of those goals, 3 have been fundamental for the grone team to have added 3 points, either in the Apertura or in the Copa Libertadores. For example, with their goals, Alianza defeated UTC and Alianza Atlético Sullana by the slightest difference; and with the one he scored against Libertad there in Paraguay, the team was able to prevail 2-1, breaking, incidentally, the losing streak of 30 games without winning in the continental tournament.
For his part, Andrade has also been doing very good performances. The last one was in the match against Cantolao. If we review the specialized SofaScore statistics portal, the midfielder does not drop below 7 points in the ratings that the page has given him in his last 8 games. Against Cienciano, to cite one of the scores, he received an 8.7. And it is that the ‘Rifle’, in said meeting, gave 2 of the 3 assists that he registers in the season. He noted that he has also scored a goal, only against Cusco FC.
And the case of Garcia? The Rosario center-back is the starter in ‘Chicho’ Salas’ squad. He has played almost all the club’s matches, except against Sporting Cristal (because Alianza did not show up) and against Libertad and Unión Comercio, due to muscle discomfort. In his position, in addition, he has managed to understand well with the experienced Carlos Zambrano, the other central defender of the team. The Argentine has been performing well and has even celebrated a goal of his own: the one he scored against Cusco FC, on the eighth date of the local championship.
The reinforcements in other years
The unknown is whether in this campaign Alianza has made the best hiring of foreign reinforcements, taking into account the last few years. If we count from the end of the tragic 2020, in which the club was relegated, but then returned to the First Division due to a TAS decision, we can say that the institution is being, for the most part, very effective when hiring players from abroad.
In 2022, for example, the intimates signed Pablo Lavanderia, who was transcendental to achieve the two-time championship and who scored 13 goals and 13 assists that year. They also took Gino Peruzzi, who today has become an important player on the squad. Perhaps that year they did not have much luck with the Ecuadorian winger Darlin Leiton, who failed to stand out; His injuries influenced him not to have a good step with the La Victoria squad.
In 2021, meanwhile, a couple of footballers arrived who remain in the team to this day. Pablo Míguez is the first and the second is the goalscorer Hernán Barcos, one of the footballers most loved by the blue and white fans. In fact, the ‘Pirate’ has become a leader both on and off the field. Other players that arrived that season were Jonathan Lacerda, Arley Rodríguez and Édgar Benítez.
Of the foreigners who landed in the 2020 pandemic, none remain at the club. The Venezuelan Rubert Quijada did not stand out, nor did the Colombian striker Cristian Zúñiga, who did not score a goal. Who did score was the Chilean attacker Patricio Rubio, seven in total, but he could not save the intimate team from relegation. The Uruguayan Luis Aguiar (champion with Alianza in 2017) also returned for that campaign. However, he left in the middle of the year.

And the foreign reinforcements before the pandemic?
In 2017, the year in which Alianza won the then-called Decentralized Championship, Aguiar came to the club for the first time and was the team’s top scorer with 15 goals. His compatriot Gabriel Leyes contributed 3, while the Argentine Germán Pacheco scored 8. The fourth foreigner to arrive that season was the Uruguayan defender Gonzalo Godoy, who was also able to celebrate an own goal on three occasions. The intimate ones took the title thanks to the fact that they prevailed in the Opening and Closing.
In 2018 and 2019 they were also on the verge of winning, but they had to settle for runner-up. In 2018, the Blue and Whites signed the Argentine Tomás Costa and the Uruguayans Maximiliano Lemos and Mauricio Affonso, the latter scoring 8 goals in that campaign. While in 2019, the institution hired the also charrúas Adrián Balboa, Felipe Rodríguez and Federico Rodríguez. The three of them were part of the intimate offensive and were able to celebrate their own goals.
In recent years, Alianza has hired, for the most part, foreigners who have contributed to the club, although, it is true, there were exceptions, cases that did not work out, especially in 2020, which was a disastrous year for the grone squad. The fact is that, in the current season, the three players who arrived are standing out. We’ll see how they perform in the coming months.
