- Eight days after the Russian invasion of Ukraine began, both countries have reached an agreement.
Just over a week after Russia’s attacks on Ukraine began, the nations have reached an agreement for “humanitarian reasons.”
This Thursday, according to a Ukrainian negotiator, an agreement has been reached between Russia and Ukraine for a temporary ceasefire so that civilians can evacuate.
Despite the fact that, according to what has been reported, the results that Kiev expected did not occur, the Ukrainian presidential adviser, Mykhailo Podolyak, mentioned that both nations reached the same understanding, alleging “humanitarian reasons.”
“The parties have reached an understanding on the joint creation of humanitarian corridors with a temporary ceasefire. That is, not everywhere, but only in the places where the humanitarian corridors themselves will be located, it will be possible to cease fire for the duration of the evacuation,” Podolyak said on his Telegram channel.
On the other hand, it was reported that Russia and Ukraine also agreed to deliver medicine and food in areas where the fighting intensified and which, consequently, were more harmful to the population.
Given the most recent events, it is probably a first step to find a solution to a conflict that, in fact, has already had great consequences, since, so far, more than two thousand deaths have been recorded due to the attacks against Ukraine, which began a few days ago.
In Podolyak’s words, although this may be a breakthrough in the negotiations, this is far from Kiev’s expectations; “To our great regret, we have not obtained the results that we expected,” he said.
It is an advance, as mentioned, carried out for humanitarian reasons: “the only thing I can say is that we have discussed the humanitarian aspect in sufficient detail, because quite a few cities are now surrounded. The situation is dramatic when it comes to medicine, food and evacuation,” explained Podolyak.
Consequences of the Russia-Ukraine conflict
For a few days, when Russia began the invasion of Ukraine, civil society and various industries have expressed their discontent with the actions taken by the Russian leader, Vladimir Putin.
Given the recent events, yesterday it became official that Netflix was saying goodbye to Russia and its little more than a million subscribers that the platform had in that country.
With its decision, Netflix joined the actions taken by Walt Disney, a company that decided not to launch its theatrical releases in the country led by Vladimir Putin; Warner Bros is another of the companies that have cut relations with Russia and, now, The Batman will not be released in that country.
Also, Apple announced that its products will not be sold in Russia, as part of the voices that unite against the attacks against Ukraine. This was revealed in a statement.
