Scuderia Ferrari has covered more than 700 kilometers on the first day of the Formula 1 test in Barcelona with the 2022 F1-75. Both Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc have had the opportunity to drive.
The 2022 season of Formula 1 It has started with three days of testing at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. Shortly after 9 o’clock it was the turn of Charles Leclerc to steer the F1-75 onto the track for his official session debut.
The Monegasque completed 80 laps during the four hours of filming, using the C2, C3 and C4 tires and exceeding the planned program. Leclerc’s best time was 1m20.165s on C3 tyres.
“We ran all the tests we wanted and ran our entire program with no issues
Carlos Sainz took over the driving duties in the afternoon. The Spaniard completed 73 laps (341 km) also using the C2, C3 and C4 compounds. His best time was a 1:20,416 with C3 tires. Thus, the F1-75 completed a total of 153 laps, equivalent to more than 711 kilometres, the most of any car on the track.
Lots of pending work
Both pilots had several objectives on their worksheet. First, a car function check over a longer distance, as the F1-75 had previously only completed 15km in a demo event on February 18, plus a further 100 during yesterday’s recording day.

Another task for the drivers was to familiarize themselves with what a totally new car is like. There was also a chance for both the drivers and the team to get used to the larger size of the car, with particular attention paid to pit stops. Another challenge was correlate the behavior of the car on the track with the results of the simulation work made during the design phase of the Ferrari F1-75.

“The first day of testing is behind us. This is always a really exciting moment at the beginning of every season.. It was the first time we could really push our new car and it feels great to be back behind the wheel.”
“We completed all the tests we wanted and ran our full program no problems, which is good for a new car. I’m really looking forward to getting back on track tomorrow.”
“The initial feeling is not bad, but we must not get carried away by today’s time sheets, since it is early days and everyone still hides their true form. It is impossible to have a clear picture yet, so we must stay focused and keep working hard. We did a lot of laps, more than any other team today, and that’s a positive thing we’ll build on.”.
Carlos Sainz
“Today was the first time I was in the car with a proper work plan, unlike previous times where we basically did installation laps. We were finally able to push a little bit and start to learn from these cars.”.
“The time sheet is not important at this early stage, but it was very positive to put in a good number of laps and get a real feeling behind the wheel. We still have a lot of work to do but today we could already start to feel some differences compared to last yearalthough in terms of getting used to it I don’t think it will take long.
“For sure the last tenths will be hard to find, but that’s the interesting part! Anyway, that is not the goal here in Barcelona, as we still have more tests before the first race. A good first day and I’m looking forward to tomorrow.”
