BEWARE, SPOILER ALERT. The story of Archie, Betty, Veronica, Jughead, Cheryl, Toni, Reggie, and the rest of their friends finally ended on August 23, 2023 in episode 20 of the seventh season of “riverdale”, The CW youth series created by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa.
Previously on the fiction starring KJ Apa, Lili Reinhart, Camila Mendes, Cole Sprouse, Madelaine Petsch, Casey Cott, Charles Melton, Vanessa Morgan, Drew Ray Tanner and Erinn Westbrook, as secrets from the town’s past begin to come out to the surface, the gang must make a difficult decision that will change each of their lives forever.
So in the final episode of “riverdaleBack in the present and yearning for her old life, 86-year-old Betty turns to a special friend to help her relive her last day of senior year. Is about Jughead, who was the penultimate of the group to die and returns as an angel to accompany her to remember a day of his youth.
WHAT HAPPENED AT THE END OF “RIVERDALE”
After reading Jughead’s name in the obituaries, old Betty, played by Michele Scarabelli, tells her granddaughter Alice about her friends and asks her to take her to Riverdale. Waking up from a nap, the angel transports her to the day they received her yearbooks and Betty becomes young again and reunites with her friends.
Betty is reunited with her sister Polly and her mother Alice, who divorced Hal and became a flight attendant. After graduation, Fangs goes on a music tour, but is in a car accident and is the first gang member to die.
Over lunch, Kevin questions Betty about her relationship with Archie, Jughead, and Veronica, and she admits that they opted not to make a decision and spend the rest of their senior year as a foursome. Jughead points out that Kevin will start an off-Broadway theater company and have a full life with Clay. Both will die of old age within a few weeks of each other.
In the last episodes of “riverdale”, Jughead, in his angel version, also tells that Cheryl will become a famous artist and will move with Toni to the west to have “full, beautiful and sexy” lives.
Who do Betty, Archie, Veronica and Jughead stay with?
Of course, the foursome’s arrangement didn’t last long and they eventually parted ways. Veronica returned to Hollywood to become a huge movie mogul, win two Oscars, and eventually be buried in Hollywood Forever Cemetery. Meanwhile, Archie went to California to work construction, met a sweet woman and started a family. When dying he is buried in Riverdale next to his father.
Betty and Jughead also went their separate ways, but both started their own successful magazines and neither married. Back in the present, Betty’s granddaughter takes her to Pop’s, but she has already passed away peacefully, so when she enters the place, once again he is young and can meet up with his friends.
“I think anyone who tells you there was always a plan is lying.”, revealed Schechter to Comicbook. “From the beginning, we had a lot of conversations about not wanting this to be retro in the wrong way and not wanting to be reductionist in the wrong way. There’s this core of Archie Comics about family, city, growing up, and everything universal. But there was always Archie choosing between two girls. I think we made a really conscious effort to get away from that in the pilot, and we’ve kept to that throughout. So I think it was modern and appropriate. Each of these characters have lives so big that they were meant to lead. I think it was a very brave and interesting choice. That they don’t end up together, in a way, is more honest. It also helps you remember that each of these relationships is equally important at the time.”.
