Are you planning a vacation with friends or with your family? Look at this note so that you know about the holidays, holidays and bridges that remain in the year. During these days the workers and students take a much-needed break from their daily routine and spend quality time with their loved ones or head off on an adventure. These rest dates are official by the Federal Labor Law and the Secretary of Public Education (SEP).
Unlike last year, in 2023 vacations in Mexico were extended. In January of this year, the modification to the Federal Labor Law came into force that allows workers to have a minimum of 12 days off per year, thus doubling the vacation days allowed until 2022.
What are public holidays or holidays?
The purpose of public holidays or holidays is for workers to celebrate civic or religious festivities with greater flexibility, without compromising their work performance. This means that, even if you suspend activities, holidays are paid from your payroll. Here are the official dates.

- Sunday January 1: New Year’s Day.
- Monday February 6: Day of the Mexican Constitution.
- Monday March 20: birthday of Benito Juárez.
- Monday May 1: International Workers’ Day.
- Saturday September 16: Mexican Independence Day.
- Monday November 20: anniversary of the Mexican Revolution.
- Monday December 25: Christmas day.

What to do if you are asked to work on a holiday?
Article 73 of the Federal Labor Law of Mexico establishes that if a worker provides services on a holiday, the employer must pay him a double salary for the work performed. According to this law, workers are not required to work on their rest days.
