During another short video on his TikTok account, Ricardo Salinas Pliego exposes his opinion about bitcoins and the financial advantages they offera reason that led it to implement them as one more payment method in all its Elektra stores.
However, when interviewed by his nephew Guillermo Salinas about the possibility of using bitcoins directly from the Banco Azteca mobile application, the businessman rejected that this financial system would arrive in the near future.
“The fucking regulators won’t let us, the Bank of Mexico won’t let us. The Governors”.
“They are all, it is the Ministry of Finance, the National Banking Commission… that is, none of them like bitcoin and they have prohibited us banks from getting involved in facilitating operations with bitcoins”.
With this panorama, and as long as the financial regulation in Mexico does not change, the businessman considers that progress towards a monetary and digital investment transformation will not come soon, as is already happening in other countries.
@ricardobsalinas My nephew @memosalinas7 asks me a very recurring doubt, that if we are going to integrate BITCOIN into the Banco Azteca app, unfortunately not, and not because we don’t want to, see the reason in this excerpt from the interview. #bitcoin #cryptocurrencies #entrepreneurship #entrepreneur #money #advice ♬ original sound – RicardoBSalinas
Elektra and its “cryptopayments”
Being a commercial entity that does not collect money as a banking institution and does not require the same regulation as Banco Azteca, Elektra can now sell bitcoin like any other commodity.
And it is that the affinity that it has towards this cryptocurrency gives rise to the idea of integrating it into Grupo Salinas, because, according to the Mexican tycoon, it offers new opportunities to the consumer.
“Elektra is not an entity with the problem of having to protect people’s depositswhich is the argument used by the Gobiernícolas, that they are going to protect you from yourself”, explains Salinas.
However, although the businessman points out that Mexicans can have bitcoins to exchange them at a certain time for items, such as a motorcycle or a cell phone, it is not a practice that he recommends.
“Bitcoin is for saving, not spending”, clarify.
On his way to make the path of bitcoins visible and faster in Mexico, Ricardo Salinas Pliego announced that they are already working on a plan so that the Lightning Network protocol will reach Elektra stores in March of this year.
This seeks to improve the scalability of bitcoin and facilitate the speed of transactions.
“It is a bitcoin, but second level and has much lower commissions”explains the businessman.
@ricardobsalinas How do we start selling Bitcoin in Elektra? Here I tell you where the idea came from and how we became the pioneers of cryptocurrency in Mexico. Don’t forget that Bitcoins are for SAVING! @memosalinas7 ♬ original sound – RicardoBSalinas
