Setting several alarms to wake up is a classic. Reach out to turn off that cell phone that rings and rings too. However, this scenario can change thanks to the Huawei GT 4 smartwatch that, when connected with cell phones from this same brand, allows you to turn off or move the alarm for 10 more minutes, all from the same watch screen.
Launched this September 14 worldwide, this new product is already in pre-sale both in Chile and in the rest of Latin America. The launch price, for the Chilean territory, starts at $219,990, however – and for a limited time – the brand has decided to apply interesting discounts that, in Spanish, allow you to obtain it starting at $149,990.
But why are we talking about a wake-up alarm on a smartwatch? Because the concept of sleeping and waking up with this wearables It is born from its main comparative advantage: the battery life of the Huawei GT4 smartwatch is really long. That is to say: you go to bed with this accessory on without worrying about leaving it charging at night.
In this article we will specifically refer to the 46 mm Huawei GT 4 model, black in color, with a fluoroelastomer bracelet (what is popularly called “rubber”), which was the one we received for review.
Our first focus was on the company’s promise of a two-week battery life. However, for this to be achieved, it will surely have to be used in a very simple way. The truth is that, for the purposes of this review, we carried out the usability tests starting on Tuesday, September 12, with a 75% battery charge. After normal – and sometimes intensive – use, it was only on Saturday morning that we decided to charge it, even though it still had 16% left. After that milestone, we reached Monday, September 25 (day 13) with 56% battery.
Going to sleep with the Huawei GT4 allows several options: sleep monitoring, with differentiation of light sleep, deep sleep or REM sleep, all thanks to its TruSleepTM 3.0 technology. This allows us to identify behaviors such as the continuity of deep sleep or the times in which one wakes up and falls asleep again. In fact, when combined with the Huawei Health App installed on the cell phone, it also allows you to know the quality of your breathing while you rest.
Both the material of the strap and the size of the watch do not represent any problem for sleeping with the device. It becomes so comfortable that at several moments we forget that we are still using it.
Another advantage this has is the option to record snoring. This last item is possible thanks to improvements that were made to the watch’s microphone and that also allows you to make and answer phone calls more clearly. Along the same lines, a speaker is also incorporated that also improves the audio of this wearables.
Applications to promote sports
Who is this model aimed at? Continuing with its GT smartwatch line, the unit is designed for those looking to combine an executive lifestyle with office work, but without leaving aside occasional sports. That is to say, it is a great companion for those who need a counselor to practice sports and thus encourage a healthier life.
To use it, downloading the Huawei Health application is mandatory. It is available for both Android and iOS. By connecting with the watch, this application allows you to set movement and physical activity goals, such as standing up every hour; performing 20 minutes of exercises; and the classic counter of 10 thousand steps per day. With this, the reminder to move is literally at your fingertips.
Health data
One of the key technologies for measuring health data in this smart watch is TruSeenTM 5.5+, which improves heart rate monitoring: by using it one can know how many times the heart beats per minute, whether during physical activity or when we are at rest.
Other information it provides is body temperature, blood oxygen saturation (SpO2), respiration, in addition to analyzing arrhythmias and pulse waves, among others.
However, for the purposes of this review, the indicators we tested the most were sleep, heart rate, and body temperature meters. This last item, however, was the one that generated the most doubts since on different occasions it revealed body temperatures of 29°C, while the normal temperature of a human being is around 35°C to 37°C.
Usability
Let’s talk now about the experience. In terms of usability, it is very comfortable on the wrist: we can sleep, shower – it is waterproof – and live our daily lives with it.
Plus, it looks great with almost any outfit. That is to say: it combines with sportswear but is also attractive to use with office clothes and casual outfits. When used with the screen off, it even reminds us of the classic watches of yesteryear. To put it some way, it is an accessory that perfectly combines sobriety, elegance and modernity.
Its screen is AMOLED, which allows the user to lose the fear of scratches. In addition, it is very easy to use, as it reacts easily to touch. A grace? It allows it to be turned off by simply placing your palm on it: very practical.
The watch faces or “wallpaper” are customizable: it must be done from the cell phone and it is enough to have a good photo in the gallery to make the change.
However, where it has aspects of improvement is the applications. It currently has a short and limited pool of apps that can be accessed, all available from Huawei Health. In fact, the “operations center” of the watch is actually the cell phone, so if it is combined with a Huawei device you will have access to more ranges. When linking to a cell phone from another company, it is necessary to download several additional App packages to obtain the best performance. This can become a complication, since several of the items will require extra downloads.
On the other hand, it is a model designed to be a watch and not a shortcut to serve social networks. That is to say: you have a connection to manage Spotify from the wearables -very useful for running and exercising with music- and you can receive notifications from Whatsapp, Instagram, Facebook, X (exTwitter), among others, but not in its complete formula. That is to say: just to take an example, it is possible to know that someone has sent a photo via Whatsapp, but they cannot be seen from the watch. Along the same lines, and since it does not have a keyboard to respond to social networks with messaging, there is a brief menu of predetermined messages.
Finally, it should be noted that it will be available in two versions: 46 mm, which was the one we tested, and one with a smaller 41 mm dial. Although eight models were presented at the global launch, only the following will be available in Chile:
- 46mm: Matte black, forest green and metallic titanium gray.
- 41mm: Black, white, metallic gold and metallic silver.
