Rappi starts a new pilot project with which it will allow users to make their payments with cryptocurrencies.
With this project, Mexico will be the first country where Rappi will test this new payment option.
It should be noted that this project has been carried out in conjunction with Bitso and Bitpay.
The boom in cryptocurrency payments reaches Rappithe delivery company that is launching a pilot project to allow users to use crypto as a payment system.
For a few months, the cryptocurrency boom has not stopped growing, to the point that more and more companies are beginning to join this trend.
One of them is Uber, the leading platform in the mobility apps market that, a few weeks ago, mentioned that it could soon accept payments with cryptocurrencies.
Dara Khosrowshahi, CEO of Uber, would have answered “absolutely” when asked if, at some point, Uber would accept payments with cryptocurrencies; However, despite the optimism that increased his position, there is a detail that could stop the intentions of the platform.
Khosrowshahi was very clear when he said when would be the time for Uber to officially make its way to this new technology. In an interview with Bloomberg, he mentioned: “as the exchange mechanism becomes less expensive and more environmentally friendly, I think you will see us lean a little more towards cryptocurrencies”.
Rappi joins the boom in cryptocurrency payments
In addition to Uber, Twitter and other brands, Rappi has also started a project that will allow users to make their payments through cryptocurrencies..
This is a project carried out in partnership with Bitso and Bitpay, the will start in Mexico and that is in its initial stage. In other words, Mexico will be the first country in which Rappi will start testing a new payment option for consumers.
“Innovation is one of the pillars of Rappi. We are studying the crypto world with interest and believe that the future is the intersection of the crypto world with non-crypto companies, with easy user experiences and without complexity. In this first phase, we decided to build a product that allows our consumers to connect their digital wallets and exchange accounts to convert crypto currencies into Rappi credits and in this way, access all the products available within the platform. For our allies in crypto, it represents the opportunity for millions of users to use this solution to buy on Rappi”, explained Sebastián Mejía, Co-founder and President of Rappi.
The issue of cryptocurrencies, despite not being completely clear yet, has caused a great furor in various sectors of society, thanks to its decentralized trading feature.
The crypto market has been gaining so much ground that, today, in addition to brands like Uber or Twitter, some traditional banks have already begun to adopt it as an official means of payment.
In Mexico, the issue also seems to be on the rise. According to data from Statista, From January 1 to April 4, 2022, the most downloaded free apps in Mexico for cryptocurrencies were Bitso (40 percent of the market), Binance (8 percent), and OpenSea (8 percent).
For Rappi, this pilot is a first approach to the new trends that are conquering more Internet users every day.
