In today’s world we live in, the importance of the consumer is highly observed by governments and brands. That is why the Federal Consumer Protection Agency (Profeco) launched a digital badge to guarantee Mexican consumers that their purchases through electronic commerce are safe and reliable.
According to loyalty data, there are more than 26 million e-commerce sites worldwide, with more and more being created every day. Likewise, there are more than 9.5 million e-commerce sites in the United States alone.
The same study details that in 2021, e-commerce retail sales amounted to approximately 4.9 trillion US dollars.
Given this increase in digital sales, various unsafe transactions also appeared on the Internet, where the consumer is the victim of cybercriminals when buying in this way.
According to a report from the payment security and fraud prevention provider, Signifyd, the pressure of fraud in electronic commerce in our country reached a level 220 percent higher than before the pandemic; this increase was accompanied by a transformation in the types of attacks faced by retailers.
The digital badge for secure internet transactions
The Federal Consumer Attorney’s Office (Profeco), reiterated the call for suppliers of goods, products or services to obtain the badge, since it guarantees consumers that their purchases through electronic commerce are safe and reliable.
Likewise, Profeco explained that this tool, of a voluntary nature and whose procedure to obtain it can be carried out at any time, allows consumers to identify platforms, virtual stores, internet pages or APP, that they offer their services safely and reliably, as well as that they respect your rights as a consumer.
In its information, the Attorney General’s Office also said that among the 43 suppliers that have the distinction today are brands such as: Kavak, Bimbo, Liverpool, Telcel, Sears, Kellog’s, Suburbia, Ópticas Devlyn, Danone, Bonafont, Sanborns, Claroshop.com, Totalplay elektra.com, Mixup, Steren and Yale; Almacenes Ánfora, Bizzarro, CMD Productos Naturales, Café Doña Yoya and Charlas Café, as well as tourist services Travel Factory by Detcotravel, Seadust Cancú Family Resort and Viajes Palacio.
In this sense, it highlights that the recognition is granted to providers that stand out “for protecting the rights of consumers, promoting and favoring clear and complete information, as well as security, transparency, confidentiality, trust and legal certainty to consumers in the electronic commerce that, derived from the coronavirus pandemic, took center stage in daily life for consumption.
Another of the information mentioned by Profeco was that some of the rights that are protected are the revocation of the contract, cancellation, return, protection of your bank data and personal data.
In this sense, it is becoming more and more normal that the governments themselves are protecting consumers so that they are not affected by companies and brands that do not comply with the parameters.
