The 90th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans has the presence of two Spanish drivers, Miguel Molina and Antonio García. The Catalan competes for the sixth time in La Sarthe, always hand in hand with Ferrari in the LMGTE-Pro category. For his part, García faces his fifteenth presence in the ‘racing race’ at the hands of Corvette, also in the GTE Pro class. As an addition, this year there is a team that competes under the Spanish flag, since the French structure CD Sport of the LMP2 category is present in La Sarthe with a Spanish license.
Miguel Molina competes with the AF Corse Ferrari #52 in LMGTE-Pro, as an official Ferrari driver. The Spaniard will share a vehicle with Antonio Fuoco and Davide Rigon. For Molina it will be his sixth participation in Le Mans, all in the official Ferrari project in the LMGTE-Pro category. It will be the second time he has competed as Ferrari’s main driver in the WEC and not as the backup driver completing the Le Mans line-up. all after getting a great podium in the 1,000 km of Paul Ricard just a few days ago.
Antonio García returns to Le Mans for another year with the #63 Corvette. The withdrawal of the brand in the 2020 edition due to the COVID-19 pandemic prevented the Corvette C8.R from being seen in action at La Sarthe, although last year the man from Madrid captained the debut of the American firm’s GTE at Le Mans. With a second place in 2021, things did not go badly for García, so ‘The King of Spain’ is really motivated. It is his fifteenth participation in the 24 Hours of Le Mans if the one in 2015 is not counted, in which he did not take the start.
Considering this fact, Antonio García is before his twelfth appearance at Le Mans as a Corvette Racing driver. During his long relationship with the American manufacturer, Antonio García has achieved two class wins (2009 and 2011)triumphs to which we must add the one he achieved with Aston Martin in 2008. In addition, together with Corvette he has conquered a total of six category podiums (GT1 / LMGTE-Pro)being second in 2021. It is without a doubt one of the proper names of the race.
Beyond these two drivers, there is a team that competes under the Spanish flag -license-. This is CD Sport. This structure was born from a French company that was founded in 1995 by Claude Degremont and that operates as an itinerant pilot school throughout France. At a competitive level, CD Sport has developed hand in hand with the driver Laurent Cazenave, acquiring greater involvement in motor sports. Its headquarters are in Pau, but competes with a Spanish license in the LMP2 class of this edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
