Follow these tips to safely update your iPhone to iOS 15.
Today, September 20, is an important day for Apple users as iOS 15 is officially released, which will also be accompanied by systems such as watchOS 8 and iPadOS 15. The update will be released in just a few hours and all users with a compatible iPhone could update to iOS 15.
Schedule: when is iOS 15 released?
Apple usually has quite similar schedules, both when presenting a new device and when an update is released. Typically this happens at 10:00 am from Cupertino, which coincides with 7:00 p.m. in mainland Spain. Therefore, iOS 15 will be officially released at this time worldwide:
- Spain (Peninsula): 7:00 p.m.
- Spain (Canary Islands): 6:00 p.m.
- East Coast of the USA: 1:00 p.m.
- Cupertino: 10: 00h
- Costa Rica: 11: 00h
- Panama: 12: 00h
- Mexico: 12: 00h
- Colombia: 12: 00h
- Ecuador: 12: 00h
- Venezuela: 1:00 p.m.
- Chile: 2:00 p.m.
- Uruguay: 2:00 p.m.
- Argentina: 2:00 p.m.
Although this is the usual time, there are times when the launch is delayed a few minutes or a few hours. However one thing is for sure, iOS 15 will be released today.
Prepare your iPhone for iOS 15
Verify that your iPhone is compatible
It is the first step you must take, we already know the list and iPhone compatible with iOS 15 and to everyone’s surprise Apple has maintained one more year of support for devices as old as the iPhone 6s or the iPhone SE first generation. If you have iOS 14 installed, you can update to iOS 15 without problems.
Make a backup
It is a very important step for avoid losing our information in case there is any problem during installation. You can make a backup in two ways: from iCloud or from a computer.
Backup iPhone from iCloud
To make a copy of security of your iPhone in the Apple cloud, follow these steps:
- Enter Settings and press up on your user profile.
- Now go into iCloud and Backup.
- You can see when the most current backup is.
- If it’s too old, tap Back up now.
Backing up iPhone from a computer
If you have a Mac with macOS Catalina or later, you no longer have iTunes and you must perform the backup as follows:
- Connect your iPhone to the Mac and unlock it.
- Click Trust this computer if necessary.
- Enter the Finder.
- In the left sidebar select your iPhone.
- In the Backups section, tap Save a backup of all iPhone data to this Mac.
- Click on Apply.
- Tap Back up now.
If you have a Windows computer or a version prior to macOS Catalina, you will have to follow these same steps but starting iTunes on your computer.
Free up storage space
It is an important step, the new iOS 15 update takes up quite a bit of download space, and if you are going to install it directly on your iPhone without using a computer, you will need to make sure that you have available space.
Go into Settings> General> iPhone Storage and verify that you have at least 4-5 GB available. If you do not have them, below you will see the files and apps that occupy the most, try to delete some of them. If you have a lot of photos, you can optimize storage from Settings> Photos.
Update the apps
Many Apps can cause problems in iOS 15 if they are not up to date, so we recommend you do it before, since afterwards the servers may be somewhat collapsed.
To update the applications and games on your iPhone, enter the App Store, press up on your profile, scroll down to reload the page and then tap on Update all. This is something you should also do after installing iOS 15 and for the next few days.
Now your iPhone is ready to update to iOS 15. From 7:00 p.m. enter Settings> General> Software update to check if iOS 15 is already available.
