Much has been said about the exclusivity of Activision Blizzard games after the purchase of Microsoft, with Call of Duty being the clearest example. Now, during a recent interview, Phil Spencer, head of Xboxhas mentioned that the exclusivity of games on consoles will be less in the future.
In a chat with Bloomberg, Spencer mentioned that he hopes console game exclusivity will decrease in the coming years.. This is what he commented on it:
“Maybe you at home buy an Xbox and I buy a PlayStation and our kids want to play together and they can’t because we bought the wrong piece of plastic to plug into our TV.
We really love being able to bring in more players to reduce friction, make people feel safe when playing, allowing them to find their friends, play with their friends, regardless of device. I think in the long run that’s good for this industry.
And maybe in the short term, there are some people in some companies who don’t love it. But I think as we get over the hump and see where this industry can continue to grow, it turns out to be true.”
Let us remember that with the purchase of Bethesda and Activision Blizzard, Microsoft has respected the exclusivity contracts with PlayStation that they had, as was the case with deathloop Y Ghostwire: Tokyo. In addition to this, it has been mentioned that the next three Call of Duty titles will also be available on Sony’s console. Even the series Minecraft It has reached various platforms, including the Nintendo Switch.
Nevertheless, it seems that Xbox is not quite ready to let go of exclusives. Let’s remember that Starfield Y The Elder Scrolls VI, the next big titles from Bethesda, will be an Xbox Series X|S exclusive. On related topics, Death Stranding has arrived on Xbox Game Pass. Similarly, Ubisoft + could join this service very soon.
Editor’s note:
Although it seems that the exclusivity of Xbox games could be reduced in the future, this could well be oriented only to titles that make a great commercial sense, as is the case with Call of Duty, but with other experiences that are a bit smaller, it is likely that we will only find them on Xbox.
