SAO PAULO (AP) – Pelé is expected to be discharged at any moment, after spending a month in hospital, according to his daughter Kely Nascimento.
The 80-year-old Brazilian soccer star had a colon tumor removed on September 4 and spent several days in the intensive care unit after the operation.
“Now he is stronger and will leave the hospital to continue his recovery and treatment at home,” said Kely Nascimento on his Instagram account. He added that he will return from the United States, where he lives, to be close to his father. The daughter of “O Rei” thanked the fans for “all the affection and love that we received from you this month”.
The Albert Einstein Hospital in Sao Paulo did not confirm when Pelé will be discharged.
Pelé posted several photos and videos on social media that show him recovering in the hospital. The tumor was found when he underwent routine examinations in late August.
Pelé was a member of the world champion Brazilian teams in 1958, 1962 and 1970, and continues to be the player who scored the most goals for the national team, 77 in 92 games.
