If a few months ago we learned that Vodafone will open an innovation center in Malaga, now it is Orange who brings us good news in this regard. The French operator has confirmed that, for next year, will invest about 16 million euros to deploy four new data processing centers (DPCs) in Spain.
Those four centers will join the new CPD that is already in operation in Santander and which he plans to open in Salamanca before the end of this year, with an investment of about 8 million between the two. In total, therefore, it will invest 24 million euros in two years to create six centers of this type.
Total budget: 24 million euros
After opening a new CPD in Santander, in which it has invested more than 4 million euros, Orange plans to open another one in Salamanca before the end of the year, with an investment of almost another 4 million. That means, in 2021 Orange will have invested 8 million euros in the preparation of two of its main sites.
In addition, for next year, the operator has announced that it will invest about 16 million euros in deploying four new centers, which will be located in Orense, León, Cáceres and Almería. The total investment during these two years, therefore, will be 24 million euros.
These six main sites, also called PoPs (Points of Presence), are CPDs where all the traffic from the “intermediate” sites is added of one or more provinces. According to the operator, the objective of this investment is to have centers prepared not only for the growth of data traffic that we are experiencing now, but also for the future uses of telecommunications that 5G and XGSPON will bring with them.
