- Now, on WhatsApp, you can report cases of harassment within the platform
- Along with other platforms, WhatsApp begins to implement more improvements regarding the security of its users
- Cases of harassment on social networks and digital platforms have been a constant since, practically, they arrived
WhatsApp is enabling a new function with which users can report or report harassing contacts, one of the most common practices within the platform.
Social networks, in many ways, have become great allies for users, as they connect them immediately with the world where they live and with their closest contacts.
However, seen from another perspective, platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and others are also a space where we can easily fall into disputes, confrontations, fraud and harassment situations that, if not controlled in time, can be serious.
As a result of this, there are already different ways within the platforms themselves to avoid cases of harassment, violence, meaningless discussions, etc., to safeguard the mental health of Internet users. Despite these efforts, further action is still required.
What’s new in WhatsApp in terms of security for its users
In this way, today, WhatsApp announced the incorporation of a new tool with which users can report that harassing contact or those harassing contacts, this being one of the most common practices in social networks.
And, in reality, no one is exempt from being harassed, whether on the street, at work, at school or on the website itself. In these cases, what is recommended is to report, but many times nothing happens and the case becomes forgetful.
For this reason, the Facebook social network also has a new “emergency button” in mind to report cases of harassment within the platform and it is treated in a very simple way: by means of a message. Through a statement, the company expressed the following:
“Since 2015, we have provided a way for users to report a contact to us either from individual or group messages. When you do this, the 5 most recent messages from that chat are forwarded to WhatsApp. Also, when an unknown contact sends a message to a user for the first time, we immediately show an option to report that user ”.
Now, what WhatsApp is implementing is an easier way for those complaint messages to reach the company directly.
What users have to do is long press on a message in a chat and it will be redirected in a more direct way to the company.
“We have heard comments that sometimes users want to report an account for messages they received earlier in the conversation, and this update allows users to forward the correct messages directly to WhatsApp.”
WhatsApp joins other digital platforms
This WhatsApp initiative joins those that other platforms have been implementing. For example, Twitter is one of the social networks that has put the most emphasis on that particular topic.
In recent months, Twitter has been focusing its functions on offering a better experience to its users, both in terms of content and security.
To do this, it also added functions to detect and report harassing contacts, since, in addition, this is one of the social networks where these practices are most abundant.
The truth is that this type of practice will continue to occur as long as stronger actions are not taken. Social networks, we have seen, are a great space for users to receive all kinds of comments and messages that, in many ways, damage their integrity.
