- Nissan launched a 4-hour YouTube ad inspired by the popular Lofi Girl channel, promoting its Ariya electric SUV.
- The ad was developed by Nissan USA, Alphabet, Titmouse animation studio and Mayda advertising agency.
- It was produced to be included in Lofi Girl, with the idea being that the ad’s life would match that of the SUV’s batteries.
In early 2023, Nissan posted on YouTube an advertisement which surprised by the duration: 4 hours. Since then, it has been a true ratings success, with more than 18 million views and 3,800 comments.
The ad, inspired by the popular channel lofi girlpromotes the Ariya, one of the electric SUVs of the Japanese brand.
Nissan USA developed the campaign with Alphabet (company behind YouTube), the animation studio Titmouse, from California, and the advertising agency Mayda, from New York.
The advertisement was produced to be included in Lofi-Girl, a popular channel on the site that airs live broadcasts with relaxing music illustrated with a series of images with anime aesthetics. of a young woman at home together with her cat.
Nissan’s 4-hour ad is obviously inspired by Lofi-Girl, although in this case a woman can be seen driving through a landscape that is occasionally seen billboards with an Ariya ad.
The idea of the creatives who carried out the project to extend the ad for four hours has an explanation: it is the time that the SUV’s batteries last once recharged.
On YouTube, the comments on advertising are mostly positive.
“I’ve been letting this ad run for 20 minutes. Sent it to friends, saved it to my favourites. I’ve never considered buying a Nissan before, but who knows now? I want to congratulate whoever gave this the green light in the publicity department. It’s a very normal chillhop, but that’s what’s weird and endearing about it. Amazing job!” wrote one user.
“It helped me get over my stress and anxiety, I’m adding it to my playlist. I listen to this when I go to sleep or do homework. I’m studying for a test and I’m going to listen to this on loop! When I grow up, my first car will be a Nissan.”wrote another.
“I was on a road trip and listening to my regular music playlist. Until I noticed this ad was under the video I was watching. I clicked and it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made! The music and animation are amazing. Interestingly, my parents also have a Nissan. I visualize myself as the character in the video. Many thanks to whoever made this! It made my trip so much more relaxing and enjoyable,” says another of the many positive comments on YouTube about Nissan’s 4-hour advertisement.
