In order to recover subscribers and keep the ones you already have, Netflix officially launched the new subscription package in the United States that includes ads every so often when content is played.
Netflix’s “Basic With Ads” plan launched at 9 a.m. PT in the US, UK, Australia, Japan, Brazil, France, Germany, Italy and South Korea. Pricing varies by region, but at $6.99 a month in the US. The plan is at the lower end of the streaming spectrum, less than half of the most popular option, which costs $15.49.
Many media are seeing how this subscription level works and lThe first reports point to the “disappearance” of some important series on the platform.
Series not available in this Netflix package
The series that surprised many more is House Of Cards and Arrested Development, which although they are original to the platform, is not at this level due to licensing restrictions.
The following series are also not available with the ad level: Peaky Blinders, New Girl, The Magicians, The Last Kingdom, The Sinner, Good Girls, Queen of the South, The Good Place and Friday Night Lights, as well as a number of films from various studios.
Netflix executives had already indicated that 5% to 10% of programming would be missing from the Basic With Ads tier at launch, though huntil now it was not clear which titles would be affected, says dead line.
The main reason is the process of modifying the distribution contracts that the streaming company has with the productions it contracts.
