It’s no secret that Netflix has put a huge investment into creating mobile games. Currently, the streaming company has bought three studios. Now, today it has been revealed that a fourth team joins the company’s catalogue, the interesting thing is that this is a completely new group.
Through an official statement, Amir Rahimi, vice president of game studios, has revealed the formation of a new studio in Helsinki, Finland, with Marko Lastikka, who previously worked at Zynga, as its director. This was what Rahimi commented on it:
“Why Helsinki? It is home to some of the best talent in the world. This will be a game studio we built from scratch and our second game studio in Helsinki together with Next Games, which became part of Netflix earlier this year. Together with Night School Studio and Boss Fight Entertainment, these four studios, each with different strengths and areas of focus, will develop games to suit the diverse tastes of our members.
It’s still early days and we have a lot more work to do to deliver a great gaming experience on Netflix. Building a game can take years, so I’m proud to see how we’re steadily building the foundation of our game studios in our first year and look forward to sharing what we produce for years to come.”
At the moment there are few details about this new team, and we don’t even know his official name. Lastikka, for his part, is known for his work as CEO and executive producer at EA, as well as his nearly nine years of work at Digital Chocolate. Alongside this, he was also responsible for the creation and operations of Simcity Buildit during his time at EA, in addition to working on FarmVille 3 at Zynga.
On related topics, Netflix announces collaboration to create games with Ubisoft. Similarly, new details are given about the Assassin’s Creed series.
Editor’s note:
Although I have not tried the Netflix games, apparently in the trailers of these products, there is quality. The idea of creating a study focused on this division is the next logical step. I just hope that the trends with series and television to cancel interesting productions are not replicated so often with video games.
