- Netflix has already released its first free virtual reality video game
- The video game is titled Eden Unearthed and is based on his own anime Eden
- Everything indicates that Netflix’s big bet is now focused on the video game industry
Netflix has already launched its first free virtual reality video game based on the character of Eden, the platform’s original anime series.
Not long ago Netflix announced its foray into the world of video games with the launch of a platform specially dedicated to that market.
The idea of Netflix is that of practically all companies: grow your business as much as possible in order to monopolize several markets and, of course, reach more consumers.
In this way, and taking into account that the series and movies platform was having a decrease in its numbers, it decided to venture into the gamer universe and recently its first tests with video games arrived.
The videogame industry is undoubtedly one of the most powerful in the world; their income increases year after year and, during the pandemic, or did even more.
Last year, in the midst of confinement and the strong ravages of the pandemic, Play Station and Xbox launched their new consoles, of which Sony’s PS5 has been the best-selling so far, even though its price is very high and, in many countries, there was a significant escalation of unemployment.
The Netflix landscape
On the other hand, streaming platforms such as Netflix, HBO Max, Amazon Prime Video, Disney + and others also had a significant rise in said period, being, however, Netflix the one that was the loser by losing the price of its shares in seven percent.
While it is true that, in terms of the number of its subscribers, it reported an increase of four million new users, this was far from its own expectations.
Despite this, Netflix continues to be the platform with the most subscribers worldwide, with some 203 million users spread over 190 countries who enjoy the contents of the platform.
Now, for a few months, the site shared its desire to enter the world of video games with a platform dedicated to gamers, although it seems that its intentions still go beyond what was thought.
As reported on the UploadVR site, Netflix released its first virtual reality video game, titled Eden Unearthed, which is based on his own anime Eden, available for the Oculus Quest headset.
According to what said medium reports, it is more than anything else an experiment by Netflix to see how it works among users and, if they have a good response, start launching more titles.
Netflix’s big bet
And, in reality, everything indicates that Netflix’s bet is now focused on the video game industry, which is why a few weeks ago it launched its own platform dedicated to gamers.
However, this does not mean that it is a great success for the platform, because, as we know, the market is very monopolized by the giants Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo, each with their own titles and their own niche of consumers.
That is why Netflix hired some executives with extensive experience in the gaming market, the most notable being Mike Verdu, who was even part of Kabam, Electronic Arts and Oculus, among others.
We will see how the platform is doing in its new gamer project and, above all, we will see how it manages to regain ground as a content platform when competition is more intense every day.
