Could an electric car manufacturer be a benchmark in freight transport in the city? Polestar has created a curious technology.
Mobility is changing dramatically as the months go by. As new traffic restrictions are introduced, mainly that of cars based on internal combustion, the step is used to innovate more in electrical matters. The market has undoubtedly bet on the project based on zero polluting emissions.
This, of course, is causing more and more companies to decide to bet on alternative solutions. This mainly affects transport in urban areas. More specifically, all eyes are placed in the transport of goods. How to supply the businesses and shops located in the city taking into account that electrical means of transport are scarce?
Polestar has created an electric cargo sled to transport parcels
One of the solutions that is being proposed is the provision of technologies similar to those that Polestar presents today. The Geely group division, also owner of the Volvo firm, has created a cargo sled called Re: Move. It is nothing more and nothing less than a bet that is especially focused on parcel transport in urban areas.
It has a series of new features that make it a solution that is worth analyzing a little more in depth. It is a bet that stands out for its simplicity in driving, the possession of a technology designed to be a benchmark in sustainable mobility and, of course, by the provision of a whole battery of measures that allow it to be sustainable.
Let us see, therefore, what is known at the moment of this project, to what extent it can be a substitute means of transport for the classic van and, of course, what would be its radius of action if, finally, had its own niche in the industry. And you, would you get one of these proposals or do you think there is still room for more conventional options?
Re: Move, the name of Polestar’s sleigh to avoid polluting
The Re: Move is designed to be a turning point when it comes to transporting loads in urban areas. Given the future arrival of restrictions in this area, it will be essential for companies to adapt to the new times. Yes, it is true that companies like Amazon are ordering fleets of electric vehiclesBut the truth is that there may be a new niche in the transportation industry.
The IAA 2021 that has been taking place these days in Germany has witnessed the presentation in society of this curious proposal. It stands out, mainly, for having a technology with the capacity to transport large volumes of goods. After all, this is a fundamental requirement considering what its purpose is. Now, what more details are known about it?
This electric cargo sled is capable of reaching 25 km / h
Its load capacity, at the moment, is about 180 kilograms. This is a lower figure than was initially expected. Still, it seems like a pretty acceptable record. At a dynamic level, it should be noted that it is designed to make very long turns, an issue that acquires greater relevance if it is to be used in spaces with difficult access. Even so, the key is in its battery.
Considering that a large part of the power will be lost due to the heavy weight that must be dragged, it has been decided not to skimp on battery size. Therefore, the chassis of the vehicle allows to add a set of batteries with capacity up to 2.2 kWh. Even so, consumption will also depend on the use made of the accelerator, since it can reach 25 km / h.
An electric cargo sled that bets on innovation
As can be seen in the specialized media New Atlas; in this project they have intervened different companies from various sectors. Following the example seen in the first image of the article, you can see which companies have participated in the creation.
It is striking to see how, in addition to being present, of course, Polestar, the electric bicycle manufacturer Cake, the aluminum manufacturer Hydro, the Wallpaper magazine and the industrial designer Konstantin Grcic have also contributed. Thanks to the contribution of all these actors, you have been able to enjoy a bet that you could have great recognition for years to come.
We will have to wait a while to see if this type of bets are successful or if, on the contrary, the market shields us other opportunities to continue to take advantage of the pull of e-commerce. And you, would you bet on solutions more linked to drones or do you think this alternative could be very interesting?
