This 2020 Motorola surprised with the Motorola Edge and Edge +, mainly because the second represented its return to the premium range . And apparently this return to competition in the highest segment of the market is just beginning, as it is already preparing another flagship for 2021.
Motorola Nio is the code name of this supposed flagship for next year, and of which a couple of reports now reveal a large part of its technical characteristics, highlighting its screen with an unconventional refresh rate of 105 Hz.
Motorola Nio, successor to the Motorola Edge?
From XDA-Developers report that Motorola is testing the Motorola Nio screen at a refresh rate of 105 Hz, however this does not mean that the device reaches the market with this configuration. In fact, they mention that it is likely that the refresh capacity of the screen for the end user is 90 Hz, as it happened with their flagships this year.
However, the same report also mentions the possibility that the refresh rate of this smartphone can reach 105 Hz only in certain tasks, for example when browsing the interface, to offer a more fluid experience.
On the other hand, the German publication TechnikNews reports a large part of the probable technical characteristics of the new Motorola Nio. According to the information, this new flagship would arrive next year with Snapdragon 865 chipset, 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage (and a possible variant with 12/256 GB is mentioned), FullHD + screen, triple rear camera with 64 main sensor megapixels and double front camera with 16 and 8 megapixel sensors.
This set of specifications is striking and interesting because although they are powerful, they seem to belong to a flagship direct successor to the Motorola Edge and not to its younger brother the Edge +, mainly due to three aspects:
- Because it makes use of this year’s Snapdragon 865, instead of the next Qualcomm gem that is expected to be presented soon
- Due to the RAM and storage memories smaller than those of the Edge +
- By the main 64 megapixel sensor, same resolution seen in the Edge
While more details of this mysterious smartphone are known, what is clear is that Motorola is willing to continue competing with new flagships . We’ll see what happens next year.
