The person in charge of the special effects of the movie Morbius assures that the character will be at the level of Thanos.
There is little left for it to be released Morbiusthe vampire movie Marvel interpreted by Jared Leto that will be in the SONY Universe beside Venom by Tom Hardy and Kraven by Aaron Taylor-Johnson. Now, the visual effects supervisor, Matthew E. Butlerhas shared details of the character’s design.
“When you put a character on the screen for the first time, you have a great opportunity to create something. From the beginning I insisted that we use technology to improve and help with the transformation, especially of Morbius himself, because I thought that’s where we would have the least limitations. There’s limitless potential using some of these new technologies, so it’s interesting to be a part of that and push the boundaries.”
“Visual effects is never a one-size-fits-all answer to anything – we try to use the right tool for the job, and every job is slightly different. In Morbius, vampires act, offer dialogue and expression, and need to look, feel, and smell like the actor. Jared Leto and Matt Smith need to get ahead in their vampire ways. We tried to keep as many of his characteristics as we could, so you could look at this creature and think, yeah, that’s Jared. However, we started from an attractive man to make this horrible character.”
Switching easily between human and vampire forms was essential to the character:
“Morbius can ‘bloom’ from his human version to his vampire version and vice versa, so he’s not continuously in that phase. He can get in and out, usually through anger. He needed to be able to transform into different expressions ».
“One solution is to film them as they are and manipulate the face. That can work, but sometimes we go off pretty massively, and we still need to capture all the idiosyncrasies, the subtleties, the familiar indicators of who that person is and their characteristics, even though the creature is quite different in geometry. We decided that the actors would perform onstage and we would recapture that performance with a series of dots on their faces and cameras on their helmets that can capture all those subtleties. The software can translate that performance into a creature that is completely different. That’s something we accomplished quite well with Thanos and Morbius is up to the task.”. concluded Matthew E. Butler.
